China’s Humanoid Robots Advance Rapidly, Breaking Records and Dominating the Global Industry

20 hours ago | Robot Industrial & Automation

Jakarta, INTI - China’s humanoid robotics sector is experiencing a significant leap forward after the “Lightening” robot set a new record at the 2026 Beijing E-Town Half Marathon, completing the 21.1-kilometer race in 50 minutes and 26 seconds.

New Records and Technological Progress

Developed by Honor, a subsidiary of Huawei, the robot surpassed the previous human record held by Jacob Kiplimo, who finished in 57 minutes and 20 seconds.

Honor engineer Du Xiaodi stated that the robot’s development took one year and involved advanced cooling systems and high-precision joint technology.

He noted that humanoid robots like “Lightening” are expected to bring major transformation to the industry, although the technology is still in its early stages.

Technically, the robot stands around 170 cm tall, features a torque system of up to 400 Nm, and uses a liquid cooling system exceeding 4 liters per minute to maintain stability during high-speed running.

The event also featured more than 100 robots, some of which were capable of running autonomously without remote control.

Industrial Dominance and China’s Ecosystem Advantage

This rapid progress is supported by advanced infrastructure, including high-precision navigation systems and 5G-Advanced networks that enable millisecond-level response times.

According to research firm Omdia, global humanoid robot exports reached 13,000 units in 2025, with China accounting for approximately 90 percent of the total.

In addition, Chinese companies occupy the top six positions in global humanoid robot shipments.

China’s robotics development strategy is often compared to its electric vehicle industry, built on a strong supply chain, continuous innovation, and diversified product pricing.

In Shenzhen, development costs are relatively efficient at around RMB 2 million (approximately USD 282,000), supported by mature engineering capabilities and readily available components.

This rapid advancement further reinforces China’s position as a global leader in humanoid robotics, driven by a highly integrated and competitive technology ecosystem.

Conclusion

China’s rapid progress in humanoid robotics demonstrates how integrated ecosystems, strong supply chains, and advanced connectivity can accelerate technological dominance. With record-breaking performances like the “Lightening” robot and a commanding share of global exports, China is positioning itself at the forefront of the humanoid robotics industry. As development continues, the gap between experimental robotics and real-world application is expected to narrow, reshaping industries from mobility to automation worldwide.
