China Mobile International Highlights AI Healthcare Challenges and Solutions at Tech Connect Event

5 months ago | Digital Health

Jakarta, INTI – The development of artificial intelligence (AI) in the healthcare sector presents significant opportunities to improve the quality of medical services. However, it also brings serious challenges, ranging from technological readiness to the security of patient data. Hospitals in Indonesia are still considered to face obstacles in fully adopting AI technology. Addressing these issues, China Mobile International presented both challenges and solutions for strengthening the digital healthcare system at the Doorstop Tech Connect INTI forum, held in Jakarta on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, as part of broader efforts to promote a secure and integrated technology-based healthcare transformation.

Time Constraints and the Technology Gap

Cheong Gzei Wei, Solution Manager at China Mobile International, stated that the main challenges in implementing AI in Indonesian hospitals lie in time constraints and the existing technology gap. According to him, Indonesia’s technological development is still around a decade behind advanced countries such as China and the United States.

This condition requires continuous learning processes for Indonesia to catch up. Hospitals need to understand the technologies currently used globally and then adopt and implement them appropriately in line with national needs.

Investment as a Key Driver of Digital Health Transformation

Beyond time-related challenges, investment is a crucial factor in the development of AI and digital healthcare systems. Cheong emphasized that financial support from both the government and the private sector is essential to ensure that technological solutions can be optimally integrated into Indonesia’s healthcare ecosystem.

Without adequate investment, the integration of data systems and digital services will progress slowly and unsustainably, preventing AI from delivering its full potential in improving efficiency and the quality of healthcare services.

Strong Connectivity as the Foundation of Smart Healthcare Services

In addressing concerns related to security and service speed in digital healthcare, Cheong highlighted the importance of reliable network connectivity. Stable and high-speed internet and Wi-Fi networks, he explained, are the fundamental foundation for all smart solutions, including AI-based healthcare applications.

Strong connectivity enables application and healthcare system data to be transmitted efficiently, allowing services to operate quickly without compromising system reliability.

Health Data Security and Digital Sovereignty

Cheong also underscored the sensitivity of healthcare data, particularly in Indonesia. To safeguard data security and digital sovereignty, China Mobile International utilizes a range of solutions, including cloud, hybrid cloud, and on-premise systems supported by multilayered firewalls.

In addition, the implementation of Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) plays a vital role in mitigating risks related to disasters or system failures. Through layered backup and recovery systems, patient data remains secure and can be restored whenever necessary.

Conclusion

The Doorstop Tech Connect forum reaffirmed that adopting AI in the healthcare sector is not solely about technology. It also requires readiness in terms of time, investment, connectivity, and data security. With strong network infrastructure, secure cloud systems, and appropriate policy and funding support, Indonesia’s digital healthcare transformation has the potential to grow sustainably without compromising national data sovereignty.
