5 hours ago | Startups & Digital Talent

Jakarta, INTI - Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong reaffirmed China's commitment to strengthening Mandarin language education in Indonesia as part of broader efforts to deepen the growing bilateral relationship between the two countries.

According to Wang, language education plays a vital role in supporting closer cooperation between Indonesia and China as collaboration continues to expand across multiple sectors.

"Indonesia and China are making effective use of existing education cooperation mechanisms to align Mandarin language education with the increasing demands of bilateral cooperation," Wang said.

Strengthening Education Cooperation and Talent Development

Wang noted that interest in learning Mandarin continues to grow among Indonesians, particularly younger generations.

To support this trend, the Chinese government is committed to expanding Mandarin language education in Indonesia through government-to-government cooperation.

The initiative includes support for developing Mandarin language talent, enhancing teaching methodologies, and strengthening educational collaboration.

China is also promoting greater people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

As part of these efforts, China has established 10 Confucius Institute branches across Indonesia, providing access to Mandarin language courses, proficiency examinations, and various cultural programs.

Chinese educational institutions also regularly send Mandarin teachers and volunteers to Indonesia to support local language education and academic exchanges.

In addition, the Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) program offers Indonesian students opportunities to pursue Mandarin studies and higher education in China.

Wang revealed that more than 17,000 Indonesian students are currently studying in China across various disciplines, including Mandarin language programs.

Promoting AI-Driven Mandarin Education

To further strengthen practical cooperation between Indonesia and China, the Chinese government is encouraging an education model that integrates Mandarin language learning with vocational training.

The approach aims to cultivate highly skilled professionals who possess both Mandarin proficiency and industry-relevant technical expertise.

"This approach will create a strong talent base to support China–Indonesia economic and trade cooperation while facilitating the localization of Chinese investment in Indonesia," Wang explained.

Beyond vocational education, Wang also encouraged Indonesian educational institutions and businesses to embrace emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI).

He said AI can play an important role in developing Mandarin teaching resources and expanding digital learning platforms, helping improve the quality and accessibility of Mandarin education for Indonesian learners.

Conclusion

China's continued support for Mandarin education reflects its broader commitment to strengthening educational cooperation and talent development with Indonesia. By expanding scholarship opportunities, vocational training, and AI-powered learning, both countries aim to cultivate a skilled workforce capable of supporting deeper economic, cultural, and technological collaboration.
