Jakarta, INTI — In an exclusive interview with INTI Media during INTI Expo 2025 at JIExpo, Cyber Vulnerability Detection Analyst from the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), Mahardika, explained the government’s strategies to protect citizens’ personal data, address cyber threats, and enhance human resources in cybersecurity. This focus is critical as national digital infrastructure becomes increasingly connected and vital. BSSN’s efforts through programs, simulations, and collaborations provide concrete solutions to strengthen Indonesia’s digital sovereignty.
BSSN’s Strategic Approach to Cybersecurity
Mahardika emphasized that although Indonesia has various cybersecurity programs, the main vulnerability still lies within humans. “The weakest link in cybersecurity is people. Therefore, developing mindset and HR competencies is a top priority,” he stated. BSSN conducts cyber threat simulations and cryptography programs to prepare for risks arising from the improper use of AI, ensuring more effective data security.
Protecting Personal Data with AI and Cryptography
In the era of AI and Big Data, Mahardika explained that technology can be used for both positive and negative purposes. BSSN’s solution to mitigate these risks is cryptography, which serves as the foundation of digital security. However, its implementation requires support from all parties, government, industry, and society to ensure its proper use in various business processes.
Developing Local Cybersecurity Talent
Human resources remain a major challenge, as many understand how cybersecurity tools function but lack knowledge of their underlying principles. Mahardika stressed, “To implement these tools effectively in business, collaborative research between the government and external partners is necessary.” With appropriate training and certification programs, Indonesia can cultivate local talent ready to face global cyber threats.
Promoting Local Innovation and Cyber Awareness
Mahardika highlighted the importance of taking pride in local products while still leveraging relevant foreign technologies. “The younger generation must become pioneers in cybersecurity, where there is still ample room for growth,” he said. He also emphasized raising awareness among infrastructure owners and digital service providers to strengthen digital sovereignty and public trust.
Conclusion
This discussion underscores the importance of HR development, technology implementation, and collaboration in safeguarding national digital sovereignty. Through strategic programs, cryptography solutions, and local talent development, BSSN aims to build a secure, resilient, and adaptive digital ecosystem. These measures are expected not only to protect digital infrastructure but also to prepare Indonesia for future cyber challenges.
