BRIN Holds Energy Week 2026 to Accelerate Energy Research and Innovation Commercialization

5 hours ago | Green Industrial

Jakarta, INTI - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is holding Energy Week 2026 to accelerate the commercialization and practical application of energy research and innovation, with the aim of addressing the needs of communities and industries.

BRIN Head Arif Satria said the energy transition is one of three critical pillars, alongside food and water, that Indonesia needs to address to achieve developed-country status.

“For a developing country to make the transition toward becoming a developed nation, these three areas must be resolved. As long as developing countries continue to face challenges related to food, energy, and water, it will be difficult to make a major leap forward,” Arif Satria said in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

BRIN has also been tasked with exploring and developing Indonesia’s potential in renewable and new energy sources, including solar, geothermal, wind, and bioenergy.

BRIN Seeks to Move Research Beyond the Laboratory

Arif emphasized that practical and applicable technological innovation is essential to advancing the energy sector.

BRIN is not only focused on infrastructure development but is also working to establish a research ecosystem that connects university laboratories with industry and government.

Head of BRIN’s Research Organization for Energy and Manufacturing (OREM), Cuk Supriyadi Ali Nandar, said Energy Week 2026 is intended to strengthen the direction of national energy research.

“We want to ensure that research does not stop in the laboratory, but moves into communities, industries, and real-world applications,” Cuk Supriyadi said.

Energy Week 2026 features a range of activities, including national seminars, an international seminar with the Spanish government, and competitions involving university students, high school students, and professionals.

Energy Research Covers Solar Power, Biofuels, and Waste-to-Energy

Cuk Supriyadi said OREM’s research portfolio in 2026 includes support for the development of 100 gigawatts (GW) of solar power capacity, E20 and B50 biofuel development, and biomass utilization.

The research also covers the reactivation of geothermal power plants and the development of waste-to-energy conversion technologies.

BRIN has outlined five key directions for future energy research, including accelerating prototype development and piloting, increasing licensing and commercialization opportunities, and integrating energy with productive sectors to support the decarbonization of Indonesia’s industries.

Through Energy Week 2026, BRIN aims to connect real-world challenges with applicable technologies and strategic partners, allowing research outcomes to deliver solutions more quickly and contribute to Indonesia’s energy independence.

Conclusion

Energy Week 2026 highlights BRIN’s efforts to move energy research beyond the laboratory and toward practical applications. By strengthening collaboration among researchers, industry, government, and strategic partners, BRIN aims to accelerate energy innovation, commercialization, and Indonesia’s transition toward a more sustainable energy ecosystem.
