SIG Strengthens ESG Practices to Support Indonesia’s Cement Industry Resilience

6 hours ago | Green Industrial

Jakarta, INTI - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, known as SIG, is strengthening its corporate governance based on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles to maintain business resilience amid economic uncertainty and intensifying competition in Indonesia’s cement industry.

SIG President Director Indrieffouny Indra said sustainability principles have become an integral part of the company’s business operations.

“Sustainability within the ESG framework is an essential element that is inseparable from SIG’s business operations,” Indra said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Sunday.

Under the governance pillar, SIG applies five good corporate governance (GCG) principles: transparency, accountability, responsibility, independence, and fairness.

The GCG framework is implemented across the company’s operational processes to strengthen its resilience in responding to industry challenges, including excess capacity that has intensified competition in the domestic cement market.

SIG Establishes Sustainability Committee

SIG established its Sustainability Committee in 2021 to support the structured and integrated management and achievement of the company’s sustainability performance.

“The committee is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the sustainability agenda and supporting the achievement of targets outlined in the SIG Sustainability Roadmap 2030,” Indra said.

The company has also adopted the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework to support the identification, management, and mitigation of climate-related risks and opportunities.

SIG evaluates the quality of its corporate governance through assessments based on the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS), regulations issued by Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK), and other applicable requirements.

In 2025, SIG recorded a GCG score of 102.67 and received the “Leadership in Corporate Governance” designation. The company also received the Best State-Owned Enterprise award in an assessment conducted by The Indonesian Institute for Corporate Directorship (IICD).

“SIG is committed to continuously strengthening its GCG practices to create added value for all stakeholders,” Indra said.

SIG Receives ESG Governance Recognition

SIG’s governance practices have also received recognition through the 2026 Katadata ESG Insight (KESGI) Awards, where the company was honored in the Governance category for the Construction Materials sector.

The award recognized SIG’s performance and initiatives in implementing the governance pillar of ESG.

The award was accepted by SIG ESG Project Management Senior Manager Arif Kurniawan during the Katadata Sustainability Action for the Future Economy (SAFE) 2026 event in Jakarta.

Conclusion

SIG’s continued focus on ESG and good corporate governance demonstrates its efforts to strengthen business resilience while promoting sustainable practices in Indonesia’s cement industry. Its sustainability initiatives and governance recognition highlight the growing role of ESG in long-term industrial performance.
