BCA Becomes First Bank in Southeast Asia to Receive AI Management Certification

2 months ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - Bank Central Asia (BCA) has obtained the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS), working with Veda Praxis as its consulting partner during the certification process.

With this achievement, BCA becomes the first bank in Southeast Asia and one of the first 100 organizations globally to receive the AI management certification.

AI Governance Becomes Increasingly Critical in Banking

The ISO/IEC 42001:2023 standard provides a global framework for AI management systems, covering governance, risk management, transparency, and accountability in the use of artificial intelligence.

In the banking sector, this standard is increasingly relevant as financial institutions expand their use of AI for decision-making, risk management, fraud prevention, and customer services.

On the same occasion, BCA also received the ISO 27701:2019 certification for its Privacy Information Management System, an international standard focused on privacy governance and data protection.

“These two certifications not only demonstrate compliance with global standards, but also reaffirm our commitment to maintaining security and customer trust amid the rapid pace of digital transformation,” said BCA Director Lianawaty Suwono in an official statement on Monday, February 16, 2026.

“The ISO certifications for data privacy and AI governance reflect our commitment to safeguarding customer trust and data security while ensuring that technology is used responsibly,” Lianawaty added.

Responsible AI Adoption Requires Strong Governance Frameworks

During the ISO 42001 certification process, Veda Praxis worked closely with BCA to ensure that the bank’s AI governance framework was fully integrated with its existing corporate governance structure and risk management systems.

CEO of Veda Praxis Syahraki Syahrir explained that the approach taken emphasized strengthening governance structures and accountability while positioning AI as an integral part of business processes and decision-making rather than merely fulfilling administrative requirements.

“This marks an important milestone for the financial services industry. As AI increasingly influences decision-making and public services, AI governance has become a strategic issue rather than simply a technical one,” Syahraki said.

“We hope this certification will serve as a catalyst for strengthening responsible and ethical AI practices across the industry, nationally, and throughout Southeast Asia. We are proud to support BCA in achieving this important milestone,” he continued.

Veda Praxis is a management consulting firm that focuses on digital transformation, governance, risk, and compliance (GRC), as well as cybersecurity. The firm adapts GRC approaches to evolving technological developments as AI adoption expands across multiple sectors.

Through its advisory services, Veda Praxis supports organizations in ensuring that AI adoption delivers real value while remaining responsibly governed. This includes developing clear governance frameworks, translating AI principles into operational policies and processes, and assessing organizational readiness so that AI adoption aligns with business objectives, risk profiles, and regulatory requirements.

“In the midst of accelerating AI adoption, this achievement places governance, accountability, and public trust at the core of innovation. It also represents an effort to build responsible AI governance practices,” Syahraki concluded.

Conclusion

BCA’s achievement in obtaining international certifications for AI management and data privacy reflects the growing importance of responsible technology governance in the financial sector. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into banking operations, strong governance frameworks and accountability will play a crucial role in ensuring that innovation continues to build trust, security, and long-term value for customers and the broader financial ecosystem.
