Apple Reinforces Child Safety Commitment as Indonesia Reviews Digital Protection Measures

18 hours ago | Digital Technology

Jakarta, INTI - Apple has expressed its readiness to cooperate with Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) as the government reviews 14 of the company's digital services under Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 (PP TUNAS), which focuses on strengthening child protection in digital environments.

The evaluation is part of Indonesia's broader effort to ensure that electronic system providers implement appropriate safeguards for children while maintaining a balanced environment for technological innovation and investment.

Apple Expands Child Safety Features

Mike Orgill, Managing Director of Apple Asia Pacific, said child protection remains one of the company's highest priorities worldwide. Apple continues to enhance its safety capabilities, with several new features scheduled to be introduced through upcoming operating system updates later this year.

The updates will include stronger parental controls, improved detection of harmful content such as nudity, violence, and graphic imagery, as well as enhanced Child Account functionality that enables parents to better monitor and manage their children's digital activities across Apple devices.

Orgill welcomed the Indonesian government's commitment to strengthening online child protection and expressed Apple's willingness to engage with regulators throughout the verification process should additional clarification be required.

Risk-Based Evaluation of Digital Services

Kemkomdigi's review covers multiple services within Apple's digital ecosystem, including iMessage, Safari, Siri, Apple Music, Apple TV, and several other digital platforms.

According to the government, each service is being assessed individually using a risk-based evaluation framework. This approach considers the specific characteristics of each platform and its potential impact on children, rather than applying a single standard across all services.

The government said the assessment is intended to strengthen child safety in digital spaces while ensuring that Indonesia remains an attractive market for technological innovation and continued digital investment.

Conclusion

Apple's cooperation with Indonesia's regulatory review reflects the growing importance of child safety in the digital ecosystem. By combining enhanced platform safeguards with a risk-based regulatory framework, both the government and industry aim to create a safer online environment for children while supporting continued innovation and digital growth.
