APJII Enhances Internet Infrastructure to Expand Digital Access in West Java

5 months ago | Network Infrastructure

Jakarta, INTI – In an exclusive interview with INTI Media, Geary M. Fherza, Chairman of the West Java Regional Board of APJII, shared his insights on the rapid development of internet services in West Java and the challenges of managing fast and stable networks. The interview took place during the National Working Meeting and Indonesia Digital B2B Forum 2025, organized by the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII).

Currently, West Java has 238 internet service providers across 27 regencies and cities, with most concentrated in major urban centers such as Bandung, Bekasi, Bogor, and Tasikmalaya. However, remote areas like Pangandaran and South Cianggir still remain underserved. Internet growth has accelerated since the COVID-19 pandemic, including many previously unlicensed providers transitioning to official services. The forum served as a critical platform to explore solutions for achieving equitable digital access throughout the province.

Fiber Optic Infrastructure as the Key to Stability

Geary M. Fherza emphasized that reliable internet depends heavily on robust telecommunications infrastructure, particularly fiber optic networks.

“If the entire region is covered by fiber optics and there is route redundancy such as two or three paths from Jakarta to Bandung service SLA can be maintained. Even if one path fails, services remain operational,” he explained.

He highlighted that high-quality service can only be achieved on a strong technical foundation, after which the focus shifts to ensuring fast and stable internet for all users, both households and businesses.

ISP Moratorium and Provider Management

In addition to network strengthening, Geary mentioned plans for a partial ISP moratorium to regulate the number of providers in areas with high density. The goal is to ensure efficient management while maintaining service quality.

“With proper moratorium and regulation, internet access can be more evenly distributed, while ensuring the service remains fast and reliable,” he added.

From Forum to Reliable Internet Services

Through the National Working Meeting and Indonesia Digital B2B Forum 2025, APJII encourages collaboration among providers to expand coverage and improve network quality. This synergy is expected to become a practical step toward equitable digital services, strengthening West Java’s position as a model for efficient and widespread internet access.

Conclusion

Internet development in West Java has grown rapidly, especially since the pandemic. Through this forum, APJII underscores the importance of collaboration, infrastructure strengthening, and provider management to deliver digital services that are fast, stable, and accessible to all communities.
