Jakarta, INTI - Google Indonesia is set to roll out new features within Google Maps to support the public during the 2026 Eid homecoming travel period. The updates were revealed by Richard Darsono, Strategic Partner Development Manager for Geo and Search at Google Indonesia, who shared early details about what users can expect.
“To streamline information on homecoming traffic flows along with routers and closure schedules, these will later be available through the Google Maps application,” Richard said after the 2026 Mudik Roundtable coordination meeting at Google Indonesia’s office on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
He added that Google Maps will also introduce flagship features designed to improve trip planning. These include route visualizations offering multiple alternatives, making it easier for travelers to choose the most suitable journey.
“For example, avoiding toll roads, estimating toll costs, offline maps, and viewing public transportation schedules such as buses and trains,” he explained.
Beyond that, Richard confirmed that Google is collaborating with Korlantas Polri and Jasa Marga. This partnership aims to continuously update information on rest areas, police posts, mosques, and other key locations that are essential for travelers during the homecoming season.
Jasa Marga Partners with Google Through the Travoy App
Lisye Octaviana, Corporate Communication and Community Development Group Head at Jasa Marga, stated that the company is collaborating with Google Indonesia through the Travoy application to support travelers in planning their Eid homecoming journeys.
Lisye explained that the partnership will integrate additional data owned by Jasa Marga into the platform to enhance public access to real-time travel information.
“These are more than 3,500 CCTV cameras, along with radar systems and several other information technologies to support the information needs of people traveling home via toll roads,” Lisye said.
She acknowledged that traffic volumes typically surge during certain peak periods throughout the homecoming season and encouraged the public to avoid these high-congestion hours whenever possible.
“Usually, the peak hours are from seven to ten in the morning. This way, people can better plan their routes and travel times to avoid heavy buildup at the same moment,” she noted.
Meanwhile, Korlantas Polri will also work closely with Google Indonesia, particularly in implementing traffic engineering and management strategies. Operations officer Renaldi Oktavian emphasized that these measures must be communicated clearly to the public so travelers have guidance and alternative travel options.
“This year there will be several additional critical points, including the use of functional toll roads, which will also be displayed on Google Maps, allowing the public to have more route choices for their homecoming trips,” Renaldi said.
Conclusion
The collaboration between Google Indonesia, Jasa Marga, and Korlantas Polri marks a significant step toward smarter and more data-driven homecoming travel in 2026. By integrating real-time infrastructure monitoring, traffic management strategies, and digital navigation tools, the initiative aims to reduce congestion, improve safety, and enhance the overall travel experience for millions of Indonesians.
As Eid mobility continues to grow each year, technology-driven coordination is becoming an essential pillar in managing large-scale national movement, transforming the traditional homecoming journey into a more efficient, informed, and connected experience.
