AGIBOT Demonstrated Its Chinese Humanoid Robot in Hong Kong, It Can Speak in English and Mandarin

1 month ago | Robot Industrial & Automation

Jakarta, INTI - More than 100 robots were showcased at two exhibition events at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, starting on Monday. One of the robots was a humanoid robot from the Chinese humanoid robot manufacturer AGIBOT Innovation (Shanghai) Technology Co. The humanoid robot was called X2 Ultra and was about the size of a primary school student.

The robot could sing songs, interact, and speak to people in Mandarin and English. When asked about its hobbies, the robot talked about doing sports and listening to music. It can also describe the people in front of it.

Calvin Chiu is the Chief Operating Officer of Novautek Autonomous Driving, which is AGIBOT's agent in Hong Kong. Chiu said that the humanoid robot is designed to interact and converse with humans, and it can also serve as a teacher to adults and children. The robots can also be programmed with different personalities.

“It would be like a friend,” said Chiu.

China is Advancing Its Robot Technology

The development of humanoid robots in China is quite evolved. The Chinese government, through its five-year plan, targets accelerated innovation, including the development of humanoid robots as part of its 2026–2030 economic strategy. In 2025, there were more than 140 manufacturers and 330 models of humanoid robots in the country.

A report from London-based tech research and advisory group Omdia ranked AGIBOT, Unitree Robotics, and UBTech Robotics Corp as the leading vendors globally in terms of robot shipments. The three companies shipped more than 1,000 units last year, with AGIBOT and Unitree Robotics even reaching over 5,000 units a year.

This technological advancement was also evident in other demonstrations at the exhibition, ranging from robots that can talk, paint, and perform somersaults to those used in simulated security patrols. EngineAI also showcased its PM01 robot, which demonstrates high mobility capabilities, including forward somersaults. The company plans to begin mass production through two new factories in China.

According to Robert Chan of EngineAI, China's advantage lies in its cost efficiency and culture of knowledge sharing between companies. He predicts the future of robotics will move toward robots that are increasingly human-like, with the ability to express emotions and interact more naturally.

Conclusion

The robot exhibition event in Hong Kong featured more than 100 advanced humanoid robots, including one from AGIBOT Innovation (Shanghai) Technology Co. The robot was capable of interaction and bilingual conversation with humans. This development reflects the rapid growth of China's robotics industry, supported by hundreds of manufacturers and a national strategy, with the purpose of utilization in public service, education, and security.
