Jakarta, INTI - Social media platform X has launched an instant messaging app called XChat. The app is scheduled to be available for download starting April 17.
Last year, XChat was launched in beta, claiming to be more advanced than DM in the X platform. XChat uses end-to-end encryption, which WhatsApp has adopted on its platform.
However, a year later, the company planned to launch XChat as a standalone app and separate from X. On the official XChat account, it announced that pre-orders are open for iPhone and iPad users.
XChat Features
According to Engadget, this app also supports end-to-end encryption. It also includes a number of features similar to an instant messaging platform, such as chats and calls between users. Users can also edit and delete sent messages. Other features in the app include blocking screenshots and messages disappearing after a certain time.
XChat offers a group chat feature that can accommodate up to 481 members. Users are promised ad-free access and no tracking when using this app.
Elon Musk’s Statements
The launch of this app comes after Musk criticized WhatsApp last week, saying that the messaging platform cannot be trusted. He also reposted a report of a recent class action lawsuit against WhatsApp regarding end-to-end encryption.
Through its official X account, WhatsApp said the accusations were false and unreasonable.
"WhatsApp has been end-to-end encrypted using the Signal protocol for a decade, so your messages cannot be read by anyone other than the sender and recipient," WhatsApp posted.
Conclusion
X has launched a separate messaging app called XChat. The app will be available starting April 17, and it is on pre-order for iPhone and iPad users on the App Store. Similar to WhatsApp, XChat will have end-to-end encryption, meaning messages cannot be read by anyone except for the sender and recipient. XChat’s other features also include calls, editing and deleting messages, and group chats.
