Jakarta, INTI - The government is preparing to provide incentives for businesses to convert their trucks to electric vehicles. This is being done to increase the decarbonization of the transportation sector.
Coordinating Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), stated that approximately 22% of carbon emissions come from the transportation sector.
Effort to Reduce ODOL Trucks
Trucks contribute the largest share of accumulated carbon emissions in the transportation sector. Providing incentives for converting fuel-powered trucks to electric is also part of the government's strategy to reduce the number of over dimension over load (ODOL) trucks on the roads.
"We are working on a strategy that can really reduce the use of ODOL vehicles, including providing incentives to convert these ODOL vehicles to vehicles that meet standards and are even better. If we then adopt electric-based logistics vehicles, whether trains or other containers," said AHY during the Indonesia Zero Emission Heavy-Duty Vehicle (IZEHDV) Summit 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
AHY explained that the government's roadmap to reduce emissions from the land transportation sector includes the development of low-emission transport, low-emission vehicles, and low-emission fuels.
"We are encouraging vehicle modernization, increasing operational efficiency, strengthening governance, providing innovative financing schemes, and developing competent human resources," he said.
