Jakarta, INTI – Makassar, May 5, 2025 Telkomsel officially expanded Hyper 5G network coverage in Makassar City, South Sulawesi, by presenting 73 new 5G BTS at strategic points. This step emphasizes Telkomsel's commitment to provide faster and more inclusive digital connectivity for communities, households, and local businesses.
The deployment of 5G BTS is focused on areas with high mobility and strong economic potential, such as shopping centers, residential areas, industrial zones, tourist attractions, Telkomsel GraPARI, and Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport.
5G Ecosystem is Maturing in Makassar
Telkomsel Network Director, Indra Mardiatna, said that the 5G ecosystem in Makassar has grown significantly. “We want to ensure that the benefits of Telkomsel's widest and most advanced 5G network can be felt evenly. This massive expansion of Hyper 5G coverage is crucial to accelerate digital transformation in eastern Indonesia,” he explained.
Data as of April 2025 shows that the penetration of 5G devices in Makassar has reached 21%. Meanwhile, the average national data consumption touched 15 GB per user per month. Internal network tests also recorded Hyper 5G download speeds reaching 514 Mbps, with upload speeds of up to 77 Mbps five times faster than 4G networks.
Continuous Expansion Plan
Indra also emphasized Telkomsel's continuous expansion plans to various other regions. “We will continue to expand 5G services to cities/regencies in Papua, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and industrial areas such as mining, in order to support economic growth and equitable digitalization,” he added.
Since the launch of 5G services in 2021, Telkomsel has operated more than 2,500 5G BTS in 56 cities/regencies in Indonesia. Previously, expansion was also carried out in Denpasar, Bandung, Jabodetabek, and Surabaya.
