Jakarta, INTI - Sony has temporarily halted sales of some of their CFexpress and SD memory cards, commonly used in cameras, due to the global memory crisis. This was announced on the official Sony Japan website.
The affected products include CFexpress Type A and Type B, as well as SDXC/SDHC cards. For CFexpress Type A, sales of the 240GB, 480GB, 960GB, and 1920GB are discontinued. As for Type B, sales of 240GB and 480GB variants are discontinued.
Furthermore, Sony’s high-end SD cards, such as the TOUGH series (64GB, 128GB, 256GB), and several lower-end SD cards (128GB, 256GB, 512GB) are also affected. However, some products, such as Type C and the SF-UZ series SD cards, which target the low-end segment, are still being produced and may remain available while stocks last.
Decision is Due to Limited Semiconductor Global Supply
Sony explained that this decision was taken due to the limited supply of solid-state memory and other factors, including potential helium supply disruptions due to the conflict in Iran. The company also stated that the current supply is unable to meet high demand, and therefore, pre-orders from authorized dealers and customers of Sony Store have been temporarily halted since March 27, 2026.
Going forward, Sony will continue to monitor market conditions before reopening orders. This announcement comes shortly after the company announced it would raise the price of the PlayStation 5 globally due to market pressures, effective April 2, 2026.
Conclusion
Sony has temporarily halted sales of some CFexpress and SD memory cards due to a global semiconductor supply crisis. This move was triggered by an imbalance between demand and component availability, although some entry-level products remain available. Sony will monitor the situation before resuming sales, amid market pressures that have also driven up the price of the PlayStation 5.
