Jakarta, INTI - PT Krakatau Tirta Industri (KTI) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable water resource management through its One Million Trees Program, which has been implemented continuously since 2007.
The initiative represents KTI’s concrete contribution to protecting river basins and supporting the continuity of the water cycle amid global climate change challenges.
In December 2025, the program reached its milestone of planting the one-millionth tree around Waduk Nadra Krenceng in Cilegon City. The initiative continues to be promoted as a demonstration of KTI’s ongoing dedication to Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
Tree planting in water catchment areas aims to maintain ecosystem balance, enhance environmental carrying capacity, and ensure sustainable water resources for future generations.
Collaboration, Social Impact, and Future Initiatives
The program has been implemented through collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including the Krakatau Steel Group, business partners, clients, and other relevant parties. KTI expressed appreciation for the participation and support of all contributors who have helped ensure the program’s success since its inception.
Looking ahead, KTI emphasizes that the achievement of the One Million Trees milestone is not the endpoint of the company’s environmental commitment. The company will continue to develop various conservation and environmental sustainability programs that provide added value to water resources and support responsible industrial growth.
KTI President Director, Dendin Hermawan, highlighted that water availability is crucial for both industrial operations and community welfare, particularly in Cilegon and surrounding areas. He emphasized that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility, integral to KTI’s role as a provider of water solutions for industry and the public.
“The One Million Trees Program, culminating today, represents our collective vision to ensure that every drop of water we use continues to cycle sustainably,” he explained.
This commitment is further reinforced by Dr. Akbar Djohan, President Director of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk, the holding company of Krakatau Steel Group, who stated:
“Congratulations to KTI, and continue to be a driving force in social movements while maintaining a strong commitment to future well-being.”
Akbar, also Chairman of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA) and Chairman of the Indonesian Logistics & Forwarder Association (ALFI/ILFA), emphasized that the program’s reach should continue to expand to maximize social impact.
Currently, Krakatau Steel Group receives support from Danantara to enhance its performance, aligning with President H. Prabowo Subianto’s “Asta Cita” vision for national prosperity.
Conclusion
KTI’s One Million Trees Program demonstrates a long-term commitment to environmental sustainability, water resource conservation, and responsible industrial growth. Through collaboration and social engagement, the company continues to create meaningful impact while advancing ESG principles for future generations.
