Jakarta, INTI – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that mastery of science and technology is the main requirement for Indonesia to eradicate poverty and become a developed country. He made this statement when inaugurating the Bhineka Tunggal Ika Campus of the Defense University (Unhan) in Citeureup, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
According to Prabowo, in the current global era, the progress of a country is largely determined by its ability to develop science and technology. He emphasized that poverty cannot be overcome only with good intentions or rhetoric, but must be with innovation and mastery of the latest technology.
Defense University Expected to Produce Leaders in Various Fields
In his remarks, President Prabowo expressed his hope that the Defense University will not only become a defense education institution but also a place where superior leaders are born in various sectors of life.
He cited the experience of the United States which established a military academy not only to produce officers, but also national leaders. "At West Point, the goal is to produce leaders for the United States, not just for the military. We can be like that too," he said.
Build a Culture of Patriotism and Mental Resilience
Prabowo also emphasized the importance of building a new culture in education, one that upholds the values of patriotism, courage to face challenges, and openness to criticism and evaluation.
He quoted a wise saying he once heard: “Don't run away from problems, face them and solve them.” According to him, the courage to face challenges is an important value that every young generation of Indonesia must have, especially those who are forged in educational institutions such as the Defense University.
Science and Technology, the Way to a Developed Country
Ending his remarks, Prabowo reiterated that amid globalization and technological revolution, mastering science and technology is the main path to a prosperous and independent Indonesia.
"If we want to be a great, prosperous, and modern nation, then we must master science and technology. Only then can we eradicate poverty," he said.
