Jakarta, INTI - Plan International Indonesia expressed its support for the issuance of the Ministerial Regulation (Permen) No. 9 of 2026 by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi). The regulation concerns the governance of electronic systems for child protection. This support was conveyed through an official letter to the Minister of Komdigi, Meutya Hafid.

In the official letter, the Executive Director of Plan International Indonesia, Dini Widiastuti, assessed this policy as a concrete step to protect Indonesian children from various risks in the digital space.

"Plan Indonesia is called to also support the implementation of this regulation and provide input to strengthen child protection policies in the digital space," said Dini.

According to Dini, child protection on the internet cannot be achieved by the government alone. Collaboration between various parties is needed to make the digital ecosystem safer for children.

"We hope to continue to be involved and contribute with Komdigi in strengthening child protection in the digital space so that the impact is broader for children, young people, and the Indonesian citizens," she said.

Plan International Indonesia also provided several inputs to amplify the implementation of the regulation. The inputs include encouraging the creation of a healthy and child-friendly internet ecosystem by improving digital literacy and reaffirming the roles of parents, schools, and communities.

The Regulation is Aimed for An Optimal Child Growth and Development in the Digital Era

Furthermore, enhancing educational and support services for children who experience the negative impacts of social media use, such as exposure to pornography, mental health issues, and psychosocial problems, is also needed.

Dini emphasized that these steps are crucial for Indonesian children to grow and develop optimally.

"We hope that children can grow well physically, mentally, spiritually, cognitively, and socially, so they can learn and participate safely, meaningfully, and with dignity in the digital space," she said.

Responding to this support, Meutya Hafid expressed her appreciation for Plan International Indonesia's commitment to supporting the strengthening of child protection in the digital space.

"We appreciate Plan International Indonesia's support. Child protection in the digital space cannot be achieved by the government alone. This is a collaborative effort—between the government, civil society, parents, schools, and digital platforms—so that Indonesian children can grow, learn, and participate safely in the digital world," said Meutya.

Meutya emphasized that this policy was formulated in a spirit of collaboration to build a healthier digital space for the younger generation.

"The main goal of this policy is to ensure that Indonesia's digital space is a safer place for children to grow and develop. With the support from various parties, we are confident that this step will bring significant benefits to the future of Indonesian generations," she said.

Conclusion

Plan International Indonesia supports Ministerial Regulation (Permenkomdigi) No. 9 of 2026 as a crucial step in protecting children in the digital space, while emphasizing the need for collaboration between the government, the public, and various parties to strengthen its implementation. With this support, the regulation implementation is hoped that a safer, healthier, and more child-friendly digital ecosystem will be created, enabling them to grow and develop optimally in the digital era.
