PGN’s First LNG Delivered to Nusantara Regas, Supporting the Electricity and Industrial Sectors

5 days ago | Industrial Transformation

Jakarta, INTI - Amid the growing national energy demand, the reliability of gas supply has become a critical factor for the electricity and industrial sectors. In line with this, on Monday, January 19, 2026, PT Nusantara Regas (NR) received its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment from PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), as part of efforts to strengthen the national gas supply for strategic sectors.

LNG Supply for Stable Economic Activity

The ship-to-ship LNG transfer took place from 19-21 January 2026, with commissioning and gas handover by PGN carried out on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Subsequently, the regasified gas was delivered through the gas-in process at the Onshore Receiving Facility (ORF) Muara Karang before being distributed through the gas pipeline network.

This LNG supply is planned to consist of three cargoes throughout 2026, sourced from the Tangguh LNG Plant in Papua. Through PGN’s infrastructure, gas distribution can reach a maximum capacity of 100 MMSCFD, with a continuous operation capability of 60 MMSCFD to ensure supply reliability.

As the national LNG terminal operator, PT Nusantara Regas has been delivering and distributing regasified LNG since 2012, primarily to support the electricity sector’s energy supply. Over more than a decade, Nusantara Regas has played a strategic role in ensuring reliable and sustainable natural gas availability, in line with the growing national energy demand and efforts toward a cleaner energy transition.

Director of Operations &Commercial at PT Nusantara Regas, Mahfud Fauzi, emphasized that the LNG supply strengthens NusantaraRegas’ long-term role in the national energy system.

“Since the beginning of its operations, Nusantara Regas has been an important part of maintaining the continuity of national LNG supply, particularly for the electricity sector. This first LNG receipt from PGN marks a strategic milestone to strengthen national energy resilience, in line with the growing demand for electricity and industrial energy,” said Mahfud.

He added that the LNG supply will be focused on supporting electricity generation and industrial activities through the utilization of integrated gas infrastructure.

“PGN’s LNG supply is allocated to meet the needs of the industrial, commercial, and household sectors so that economic activities can continue to operate in a stable and sustainable manner. The regasified gas is then delivered through the ORF Muara Karang system and PGN’s pipeline network to reach the end-user,” he continued.

The LNG and gas operations by PGN are realized as a result of collaboration among all gas stakeholders, including SKK Migas, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, LNG suppliers, PGN, Pertamina, PLN, and Nusantara Regas (NR) as the terminal operator.

Through this synergy with various energy sector stakeholders, Nusantara Regas will continue to optimize the utilization of LNG and natural gas infrastructure to meet the country’s growing energy demand. This initiative also supports the energy transition toward a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable energy mix, particularly for the electricity and industrial sectors, which are key drivers of the economy.

PT Nusantara Regas is an affiliate of PT Pertamina (Persero), established together with PT Perusahaan Gas Negara, Tbk, tasked with operating the Floating Storage & Regasification Unit (FSRU) West Java in the waters of Jakarta Bay and the Onshore Receiving Facilities (ORF) Muara Karang, DKI Jakarta. These facilities receive and process LNG into electricity supply, playing a vital role for Jakarta and western Java.

Conclusion

The first LNG supply from PGN to Nusantara Regas underscores the strategic importance of LNG infrastructure in ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy supply. Through collaboration, optimized infrastructure, and support for the energy transition, Indonesia strengthens both its industrial and electricity sectors, contributing to stable economic growth and a cleaner energy future.
