Pertamina’s Balongan Infrastructure Strengthens Energy Supply for West Java–Jakarta

3 months ago | Green Industrial

Jakarta, INTI - PT Pertamina (Persero) has strengthened its operations across western Java through a network of integrated energy infrastructure located in Balongan District, Indramayu Regency, West Java. The area hosts several interconnected downstream facilities, including the Balongan Integrated Terminal, Refinery Unit VI Balongan, and shipping operations managed by Pertamina International Shipping.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, explained that these downstream assets are closely linked and play a vital role in supporting the national energy supply chain.

Integrated Downstream Synergy and Supply Chain Reliability

The Balongan Refinery serves as a major processing hub that converts crude oil into fuel products such as gasoline and aviation fuel, as well as non-fuel outputs including propylene used as a petrochemical feedstock. The refinery receives crude supplies from several upstream fields operated by Pertamina Hulu Energi around the Indramayu region.

In addition, the Balongan Refinery is equipped to distribute and receive energy products via maritime routes, supported by the fleet of Pertamina International Shipping.

The refinery’s output is also utilized by nearby facilities, including the Balongan Integrated Terminal and Polytama Propindo, a Pertamina-affiliated petrochemical company, creating a fully integrated downstream energy ecosystem.

“The entire Pertamina energy infrastructure ecosystem in Balongan plays a strategic role in ensuring reliable energy supply, particularly for Jakarta, West Java, and parts of Central Java. This optimization reflects Pertamina’s commitment to meeting the energy needs of the public,” Baron explained.

Looking ahead, Baron said Pertamina will continue strengthening its business operations to enhance infrastructure reliability and operational performance as part of Indonesia’s national energy resilience and in support of regional economic growth.

As a leading company in the energy transition, Pertamina is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emissions 2060 target and consistently advancing programs that contribute directly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These efforts align with Pertamina’s ongoing transformation, which emphasizes strong governance, public service excellence, business sustainability, and environmental responsibility through the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across all business lines and operations, in coordination with Danantara Indonesia.

Conclusion

The Balongan infrastructure represents a vital pillar of Indonesia’s energy security. By integrating refining capabilities with advanced shipping and terminal logistics, Pertamina not only ensures a stable energy flow to the nation's capital and surrounding provinces but also sets a benchmark for sustainable energy transitions through the rigorous implementation of ESG standards.
