Jakarta, INTI - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) has introduced solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in schools through its Sekolah Energi Berdikari (SEB) program, aiming to support educational activities while familiarizing students with renewable energy technologies.
According to Susanto August Satria, Manager of Corporate Communication & Stakeholder Management at Pertamina NRE, the initiative is part of the company’s Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) program, designed to deliver tangible benefits from renewable energy to local communities, particularly within the education sector.
He explained that the Sekolah Energi Berdikari program seeks to demonstrate how renewable energy can create practical value for society.
Within schools, the installation of solar PV systems is expected to help power teaching and learning activities while giving students firsthand exposure to clean energy through technologies integrated into their daily environment.
Solar Installation Delivers Educational and Environmental Benefits
One of the program’s beneficiaries is SMPN 2 Mandau in Bengkalis Regency, Riau, where a 2.2 kWp solar PV system paired with a 5 kWh battery has been installed.
The project benefits 768 students and five teachers, providing a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy source for the school.
Beyond supplying electricity, the solar installation also serves as an educational tool, allowing students to gain practical knowledge about renewable energy technologies.
The system is projected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 2.25 metric tons of CO₂ annually while generating around IDR 295,728 in yearly electricity cost savings.
Susanto emphasized that the initiative goes beyond installing solar panels, aiming to encourage a broader understanding that renewable energy can become an integral part of everyday life.
He added that schools play a vital role in inspiring younger generations to learn about clean energy and eventually contribute to building a more sustainable energy future.
