Open Source Strengthens Business Expansion in Finance and Public Services in Jakarta

7 months ago | Digital Technology

Jakarta, INTI – 8, September, 2025 Strict regulations in the financial sector and the growing need to safeguard data sovereignty have given rise to new strategies in digital transformation. Open source technology is now seen as a reliable solution that is secure, efficient, and compliant. This issue came into focus at the Canonical Executive Partner Summit 2025, organized by Sivali Cloud Technology together with Canonical at Soehanna Hall, SCBD South Jakarta, on Monday, 8,September,2025.

A Response to Financial Challenges

At the forum themed “Empowering Public Sector & Financial Industries with Open Source Technology”, regulators, industry leaders, academics, and technology experts gathered to discuss how open source can address challenges in security, regulation, and innovation.

Founder & CEO of Sivali Cloud Technology, Wong Sui Jan, emphasized that governments, state-owned enterprises, and financial institutions must have IT systems that are secure, compliant, and efficient. “Open source is not just an alternative, but a core strategy to face regulatory challenges and data sovereignty,” he said.

He highlighted the success of Pegadaian in adopting open source. Despite being under strict supervision, Pegadaian has managed to maintain governance, risk, and compliance while still enabling innovation.

Driving Efficiency in the Public Sector

Beyond the financial world, the public sector is also intensively adopting open source to support the Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE). Code transparency gives governments greater control, reduces dependency on foreign vendors, and cuts licensing costs.

The collaboration between Sivali and Canonical is aimed at strengthening the digitalization of public services, ranging from building local cloud infrastructure, securing data, to training human resources in universities. With broader adoption, the public is expected to benefit from safer, more transparent, and easily accessible services.

Building a Collaborative Ecosystem

As the official distributor of Canonical in Indonesia, Sivali Cloud Technology reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the open source ecosystem. Ryo Ardian, Co-Founder and Executive VP of Sivali, explained that steps being taken include expanding partnerships with universities to cultivate digital talent, collaborating with local data center providers to ensure digital sovereignty, and engaging industry partners to further integrate open solutions into business.

Canonical, known globally as the developer of Ubuntu, ensures its solutions are adapted to the needs of Indonesian businesses. The forum also featured Prof. Onno W. Purbo, Rector of Institut Teknologi Tangerang Selatan, and Naeem Maver, Canonical’s Vice President for Asia Pacific, who stressed that open ecosystems are the answer to increasingly demanding global regulations on transparency.

Conclusion

Through the Canonical Executive Partner Summit 2025, Sivali and Canonical reaffirm open source as a core strategy for both the financial and public sectors. With the ability to safeguard data security, ensure compliance, and foster innovation, open source is believed to strengthen business expansion and improve the quality of public services in the era of data-driven digital economy.
