NVIDIA Says Indonesia’s AI-RAN Architecture Is a Step Ahead of Traditional RAN

18 hours ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - Global technology leader NVIDIA has highlighted a major advancement in Indonesia’s telecommunications infrastructure through the deployment of AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence Radio Access Network), describing the architecture as a significant evolution beyond conventional Radio Access Networks (RAN).

According to Ronnie Vasishta, Senior Vice President of Telecoms at NVIDIA, AI-RAN fundamentally transforms the role of radio access infrastructure. Rather than serving solely as a platform for wireless connectivity, the network becomes a software-defined, multi-purpose computing infrastructure capable of simultaneously delivering radio access services and artificial intelligence workloads.

AI-RAN Transforms Traditional Telecom Infrastructure

Under this new approach, computing infrastructure hosts radio access functions as software containers while also enabling AI applications to operate on the same platform. This convergence allows telecommunications operators to maximize infrastructure utilization by supporting both network operations and AI computing within a unified environment.

Ronnie noted that Indonesia’s AI-RAN implementation also contributes to more efficient use of radio spectrum resources. He described the transition to software-defined networks as a breakthrough that unlocks entirely new possibilities for the telecommunications industry.

Powered by AI, the architecture can improve spectral efficiency, continuously learn from changing network environments, and automatically optimize performance in real time. These capabilities help reduce operational power consumption while improving overall network efficiency for telecommunications providers.

Unlocking New Revenue Opportunities for Telecom Operators

Beyond its technical advantages, AI-RAN also introduces new business opportunities. By supporting both AI services and radio access functions on the same infrastructure, operators can monetize their networks through multiple revenue streams while deploying innovative AI applications without waiting for the transition to next-generation mobile standards.

Ronnie emphasized that many AI-driven services can already be delivered over existing 5G networks, eliminating the need to wait for the commercial rollout of 6G technologies.

The AI-RAN initiative began approximately two years ago when leading technology companies, including NVIDIA and Nokia, established the AI-RAN Alliance to accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence into mobile network infrastructure. The alliance has since expanded to more than 150 member organizations worldwide.

For NVIDIA, Indonesia’s ongoing AI-RAN deployment represents an important milestone in turning the alliance’s global vision into reality. Ronnie described the implementation as tangible proof that AI-powered telecommunications infrastructure can be successfully deployed at scale, positioning Indonesia among the early adopters of next-generation intelligent network architecture.

Conclusion

NVIDIA views Indonesia’s AI-RAN deployment as a significant milestone in the evolution of intelligent telecommunications infrastructure. By combining AI computing with radio access networks on a unified platform, the architecture enables greater network efficiency, new business opportunities, and positions Indonesia among the pioneers of next-generation AI-driven telecom innovation.
