Nezar Patria: Indonesia Ready to Develop a Technology-Driven Critical Minerals Framework

3 months ago | Green Industrial

Jakarta, INTI - Nezar Patria, Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, stated that the country is now in a strategic position to move beyond being merely a raw material exporter and become a key partner in the global technology supply chain.

He emphasized that Indonesia no longer intends to remain on the sidelines of the semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) value chain.

The government has reaffirmed its vision to transform the nation’s mineral wealth into the foundation for building future technology industries.

Strengthening Indonesia-India Technology Partnership

“This is why this conference is so important. We do not only want to sell materials to you, but also to build a technology-based critical minerals framework,” he stressed during his keynote speech at the India–Indonesia Critical Mineral Conference in South Jakarta on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

The statement outlines Indonesia’s new policy direction in forging strategic partnerships with India, which is widely regarded as having successfully accelerated its technology ecosystem through the Make in India initiative.

Nezar also expressed his admiration for India’s technological progress, which he witnessed firsthand during the AI Impact Summit in India last week.

He highlighted India’s industrial transformation driven by the Make in India initiative, including Tata Group’s move to establish AI-powered data centers and network innovations that bring supercomputing capabilities to desktop systems.

“India is not only participating in the future, it is actively building it,” he remarked.

As a follow up, the Indonesian government proposed three main collaboration agendas between Indonesia and India.

“First, build together in Indonesia by investing in mineral processing facilities to produce electronic-grade materials. Second, invest in human capital through knowledge transfer and the development of semiconductor engineering talent. Third, establish a resilient supply chain corridor by connecting Indonesia’s resources with India’s manufacturing capabilities to create a robust and efficient supply chain,” he concluded.

Conclusion

This initiative signals Indonesia’s strategic shift toward becoming a key player in the global technology value chain. By integrating Indonesia’s critical mineral resources with India’s manufacturing strength and technological innovation, both countries have the potential to create a resilient, high-value, and globally competitive technology ecosystem.
