Ministry of ESDM Prepares 24,000 Hectares of Land in Java for 100 GW Solar Power Plant Project

1 week ago | Green Industrial

Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is preparing approximately 24,000 hectares of land on Java Island for a solar power plant (PLTS) project. The project is targeted to have a total capacity of 100 gigawatts (GW).

Deputy Minister for ESDM, Yuliot Tanjung, stated that the land was identified jointly by the Ministry of ESDM and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR/BPN).

"So, based on the identification we conducted jointly between the Ministry of ESDM and the Ministry of ATR/BPN, approximately 24,000 hectares of land are available on Java," he said on Friday, May 29, 2026.

The Project Involves Several Ministries and Institutions

Yuliot stated that the identified land will still be further verified with relevant stakeholders, including PT PLN (Persero). He added that the 100 GW PLTS project launched by President Prabowo Subianto involves many stakeholders across ministries and institutions.

This involvement includes the licensing process. The government is currently preparing a legal framework to expedite the project's implementation.

"For the draft Presidential Regulation (Perpres), in addition to the initiative permit, we are also conducting parallel discussions between ministries and institutions so that the regulatory basis can be used to accelerate the 100 GW of solar power plants," he explained.

The government is also targeting the acceleration of the de-dieselization program in the frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) regions. This program will involve replacing diesel-powered power plants (PLTD) currently operating in the 3T regions.

The PLTD facilities will be replaced with new and renewable energy-based power plants, particularly solar power plants. Priority areas include Maluku and several regions in Eastern Indonesia.

Conclusion

The Ministry of ESDM is preparing approximately 24,000 hectares of land on Java to support the government's 100 GW solar power plant project. The land was identified jointly by the Ministry of ESDM and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning, and will undergo further verification with stakeholders, including PLN. The government is targeting to replace diesel-powered power plants with renewable energy-based power plants, particularly PLTS, with an initial focus on Maluku and several regions in Eastern Indonesia.
