Minister Urges Canva to Expand Teacher Training to Indonesia’s 3T Regions

3 days ago | Startups & Digital Talent

Jakarta, INTI — Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu’ti has called for the expansion of digital-based teacher training to Indonesia’s remote, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions. The statement was made during the Education Conference and Creative Showcase, organized by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in collaboration with Canva, at the ministry’s headquarters in Senayan, Central Jakarta. This initiative aims to address the challenge of digital access disparities across regions while promoting equal opportunities for creative and inclusive education throughout Indonesia.

Abdul Mu’ti emphasized that cross-sector collaboration with Canva is a tangible example of how technology can bridge the gap in educational equity.

“Canva plays a vital role in fostering teachers’ creativity and making learning more reflective, meaningful, and enjoyable,” said Abdul Mu’ti.

Expanding Collaboration to Remote Areas

The partnership between the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and Canva has been ongoing since 2022, providing free access to Canva for Education through the belajar.id account. Through this platform, teachers and students can develop design skills and create interactive digital learning content.

Abdul Mu’ti noted that such training needs to be expanded, especially to 3T regions, as many remote areas now have better internet connectivity thanks to satellite technologies such as Starlink.

“We hope this collaboration with Canva can be extended to 3T regions as part of our effort to ensure access to education for those living in remote areas,” he added.

Responding to this, Pipit Indrawati, Canva’s Education Lead for Indonesia and Southeast Asia, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding the reach of its teacher training programs across Indonesia.

“We will continue to support the ministry’s priority programs and empower teachers so that they can grow together, not walk alone,” said Pipit.

Global Support: Canva for Education Reaches 6.7 Million Users in Indonesia

Beyond training expansion, Canva continues to strengthen its educational initiatives. Since the collaboration began in 2022, Canva has conducted roadshows and webinars in 38 provinces, engaging thousands of educators from various regions, including Papua and East Nusa Tenggara. The program is further supported by “Canva Ambassadors” teachers who actively implement Canva for Education in their respective schools.

According to Megan Townes, Canva for Education Asia Pacific Japan Regional Lead, the number of Canva for Education users in Indonesia has reached 6.7 million in 2025, up from 5.2 million the previous year.

“Together with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, we have reached over 6.7 million educators and students, generating more than 300 million learning designs shared through Canva for Education,” explained Megan.

Canva records 2.7 million monthly active users in Indonesia, making it the third-largest market globally and the largest in Asia. Globally, Canva has surpassed 260 million monthly active users across 190 countries.

Educational Transformation Through Creativity and Technology

The collaboration between the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and Canva represents a concrete step toward advancing Indonesia’s digital education transformation. By expanding teacher training to the 3T regions, the government ensures that no teacher is left behind in mastering modern educational technology.

This initiative is not merely about technology it is about empowering teachers as agents of change who can create inspiring and relevant learning experiences. Collaborations like this lay the foundation for Indonesia Emas 2045, where creativity and digitalization become the driving forces of national education.

Conclusion

Canva’s presence in Indonesia’s education sector proves that technology can serve as a tool for equality, not just innovation. The Minister’s call to expand teacher training to 3T regions marks a strategic step toward inclusive, creative, and adaptive education in the digital era. Through strong synergy between the government and the digital industry, Indonesia is steadily moving toward a technologically empowered and equitable education system for all.
