Microsoft and Ministry of Communications and Digital Train 1.2 Million Indonesians in AI Skills Nationwide

8 months ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI – In less than a year, the artificial intelligence (AI) training program launched by Microsoft in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has surpassed its ambitious target. The initiative, titled elevAIte Indonesia, has successfully equipped 1.2 million Indonesians with AI skills a major step forward in accelerating the country’s digital transformation.

Inclusive AI Initiative for All Communities

The elevAIte Indonesia program is open to all segments of society, including students, teachers, civil servants, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and the general public even those without a technical background. Since its launch eight months ago, the program has become a driving force for AI literacy and adoption in Indonesia.

“The elevAIte Indonesia program is not just about numbers or speed, but about ensuring that everyone, wherever they are, can benefit from digital progress,” said Arief Suseno, Microsoft’s AI National Skills Director, in a statement in Jakarta.

Tangible Results: 1.2 Million Trained, 403 Thousand Certified

To date, 1.2 million digital talents have completed the training, with 403,000 participants successfully obtaining AI certification. Participants come from a variety of sectors:

  • Education sector: 762,209 individuals
  • Community sector: 252,598 individuals
  • Government: 115,078 individuals
  • Industry: 53,344 individuals
  • Individuals: 168,013 individuals

Backed by 22 Partners, with Flexible and Relevant Modules

This success was made possible with support from 22 ecosystem partners from diverse backgrounds including NGOs, educational institutions, local governments, and industry players. The training is delivered both online and in person, with inclusive approaches such as hackathons, promptathons, and Indonesian-language modules that are easily accessible and flexible.

To reach younger generations, elevAIte Indonesia also partnered with Minecraft Education to introduce AI and coding concepts in a visual and interactive way to elementary and secondary school students.

Inspiring Participant Stories: From Teachers to Housewives

The program’s success is also reflected in the inspiring stories of its participants.
Ahmad Zikrillah, a 50-year-old science teacher, now integrates AI into his teaching process. Thanks to the training, he created “Digital Paper” lightweight HTML-based learning materials accessible anytime, even offline.

Meanwhile, Diana Putri, a housewife from Sintang, West Kalimantan, uses AI for both parenting and her home-based business. With help from Microsoft Copilot, she generates ideas for her children's activities and explores new business opportunities from marketing strategies to building a business from scratch.

AI for Climate Resilience and Community Empowerment

Beyond education and household economies, AI is also being applied to climate resilience efforts. Through the G-Connect project developed by students of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), an AI-based disaster mitigation system was built together with local communities in disaster-prone regions.

Becoming a National Community-Led Movement

“This achievement is not just about the number of participants, but about how the enthusiasm for learning AI is spreading into a self-sustained community movement, led by students, teachers, and people eager to embrace progress,” Arief concluded.

Conclusion:

The success of the elevAIte Indonesia program highlights Indonesia’s readiness and commitment to embracing the AI-driven future by empowering its people with essential digital skills. By making AI education inclusive and accessible, the program sets a strong example of how public-private collaboration can drive meaningful digital transformation and build national resilience through technology.
