Jakarta, INTI - The Meta AI application experienced a significant surge in downloads following the launch of its latest AI model, Muse Spark, on April 8, 2026, which rapidly boosted its ranking on the U.S. App Store.
Muse Spark Drives Download Surge
The release of Muse Spark, the first model from Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, had an immediate impact on the app’s popularity.
Meta AI climbed sharply from rank 57 to position 5 on the U.S. App Store within just one day after the launch.
The model was developed under the leadership of Alexandr Wang, who was previously recruited from Scale AI.
Meta describes Muse Spark as a major upgrade over its previous model, Llama 4, and positions it to compete with leading players such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
“Muse Spark is still evolving,” wrote Alexandr Wang in a post on the social media platform X.
Multimodal Features and Intense Competition
Muse Spark features multimodal capabilities, allowing users to input voice, text, and images within a single system.
It can also support a wide range of tasks, including healthcare, science, and mathematics, as well as visual coding for building websites and mini-games.
In addition, Muse Spark is capable of running multiple sub-agents to handle more complex user queries.
Meta plans to integrate the model across platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, while also updating the Meta AI app and website interface to allow users to switch between modes based on their needs.
Despite its rapid growth, Meta AI still trails competitors in the App Store rankings, with OpenAI’s ChatGPT in first place, followed by Anthropic’s Claude in second and Google’s Gemini in third.
According to Appfigures data, Meta AI has been downloaded 60.5 million times globally, with 25 million downloads occurring in 2026 alone.
Over the past five months, downloads have increased by 138 percent compared to the initial launch period.
India is the largest market for Meta AI, followed by the United States, Brazil, Pakistan, and Mexico, marking the launch of Muse Spark as a major step in strengthening Meta’s position in the global AI competition.
Conclusion
The launch of Muse Spark marks a major milestone for Meta AI, driving a sharp rise in global downloads and App Store rankings. While Meta AI continues to trail key competitors such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, its rapid growth and multimodal capabilities signal a stronger push in the global AI race and an expanded ecosystem integration strategy across Meta’s platforms.
