Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) welcomes the decision of the Constitutional Court of Indonesia (MKRI) which requires cellular operators to provide service options that guarantee customers' remaining internet quota remains active and usable.
Minister of Komdigi, Meutya Hafid, said the government will study MKRI’s decision as a basis for adjusting applicable regulations.
"We welcome the Constitutional Court's decision. Today, we have ordered our team to study the implications of the decision, including whether regulatory adjustments are needed to fulfill the Court's decision," said Meutya in her statement on Friday, July 24, 2026.
Meutya emphasized her commitment to oversee the implementation of this decision so that people's rights as consumers are well protected, without ignoring aspects of investment sustainability and the quality of telecommunications networks in the country.
"We ensure that every policy in the telecommunications sector provides legal certainty and protects the interests of the public," said Meutya.
MKRI’s Judicial Review
As an information, MKRI recently ruled on a lawsuit regarding the forfeiture of internet quotas in a judicial review of Law No. 6 of 2023 concerning the Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law No. 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation (Cipta Kerja), which amends Law No. 36 of 1999 concerning Telecommunications.
Through Decision No. 273/PUU-XXIII/2025, MKRI partially granted the lawsuit and stated that telecommunications network and service providers are required to provide service options that ensure customers' remaining internet quotas remain active and usable.
