Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) is committed to ensuring Indonesia's digital infrastructure remains reliable. It is an effort to support the Work From Home (WFH) policy, which is currently being reviewed by the government as an energy efficiency measure.
Through the Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure, Kemkomdigi is strengthening service quality and expanding connectivity coverage through both fixed and mobile broadband services, ensuring that network communications are not disturbed when the WFH policy is implemented.
"Through the Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure, we are proactively coordinating technically with service providers to optimize all infrastructure pillars, from backbone networks and backhauls to access and data centers," said Wayan Toni Supriyanto, Director General of Digital Infrastructure of Kemkomdigi, to ANTARA News on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Kemkomdigi Keep Tabs on Telecommunication Providers Services
In addition to coordination, the ministry also plays a supervisory role and regularly evaluates the quality of services provided by telecommunications providers to ensure optimal user experience.
As of March 30, 2026, Kemkomdigi has recorded a total of approximately 613,696 sites for 4G network and 16,339 sites for 5G network, for the mobile broadband or cellular networks from three cellular operators (Telkomsel, XL Smart, and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison).
For fixed broadband services, as of March 30, 2026, Kemkomdigi has recorded that the distribution of Optical Distribution Point (ODP) for fiber optic networks for Fiber To The Home (FTTH) services had reached nearly 98 percent of regencies/cities across Indonesia.
Wayan stated that with the coverage of these digital infrastructures, the one-day-a-week WFH policy currently being considered by the Indonesian government can certainly be implemented.
WFH Policy is Proposed as a Precautionary Measure
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto, in a Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace on Friday, March 13, 2026, encouraged measures to conserve fuel consumption and considered a WFH policy as a precautionary measure against the impact of the global crisis.
Following up on this directive, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that the government is developing a policy that will allow one day of WFH in every five working days.
This scheme will be mandatory for the state civil apparatus (ASN) at the central and regional government levels, and is an appeal for the private sector.
Several ministries, such as the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Culture, have even announced WFH policies in response to the President's directive.
At the Senayan Parliament Complex on Monday, the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, stated that the national WFH policy as an energy efficiency measure would be announced on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
"Just be patient, I heard it will most likely be officially announced tomorrow. So, I don't want to get ahead of it," said Tito when asked about the policy's progress.
Tito declined to provide further details regarding the WFH policy. However, he confirmed that the Ministry of Home Affairs would later issue a more detailed appeal to regional governments.
"Yes, there will definitely be (an appeal to regional governments)," he said.
Conclusion
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has ensured the reliability of digital infrastructure to support the planned WFH policy as an energy efficiency measure by strengthening broadband networks, coordinating with operators, and monitoring service quality. The Indonesian government is reviewing a one-day WFH per week scheme for civil servants and an appeal for the private sector at the direction from President Prabowo Subianto. Details and further information regarding the WFH policy are likely to be announced soon, according to Tito Karnavian.
