Jakarta, INTI – Indonesia has once again received recognition from the international community. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations telecommunications agency, praised Indonesia for its contribution in promoting inclusivity and enhancing global collaboration in the field of digital transformation.
The acknowledgment was conveyed through an official letter from ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin to Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid on Wednesday,27,August , 2025.
Active Participation in International Forums
In her letter, Bogdan-Martin noted that Indonesia has played an active role in various global digital forums, including the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).
“ITU highly appreciates Indonesia’s continued support for the WSIS process and the government’s active involvement in the implementation of WSIS Action Lines,” stated Bogdan-Martin.
She also highlighted Minister Meutya’s participation in the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025 and the AI for Good Global Summit held on July 7–11, 2025, in Geneva, as clear evidence of Indonesia’s active engagement on the global stage.
Toward the WSIS+20 Review at the UN
Furthermore, ITU expressed its hope to strengthen cooperation with Indonesia ahead of the upcoming WSIS+20 Review, which will be discussed at the United Nations General Assembly in December 2025.
“We look forward to closer collaboration in the lead-up to the WSIS+20 Review at the UN General Assembly this December,” Bogdan-Martin wrote in her official letter.
Indonesia as a Global Bridge
Minister Meutya Hafid welcomed the recognition, emphasizing that ITU’s acknowledgment was not only directed at the government but also at the Indonesian people who continue to drive inclusive digital innovation.
“This recognition reaffirms Indonesia’s commitment to serve as a bridge between developed and developing countries in global digital governance. We want to ensure that the interests of developing nations, especially Indonesia, are reflected in the global digital agenda,” she said in Jakarta.
