Indonesian Smartphone Manufacture Attracts Global Market

8 months ago | Digital Technology

Jakarta, INTI – Indonesia’s technology industry is once again making its mark on the international stage with UP Phone, a domestically produced smartphone that is now gaining recognition in the global market. According to available information, UP Phone has already been marketed in countries such as the United States and Canada.

This smartphone features a modern and sleek design, with curved edges, thin bezels, and a “boba” style camera panel, giving it an elegant look comparable to international smartphones.

Prioritizing User Security & Privacy

UP Phone comes with a comprehensive set of features. According to its official website, Unplugged claims that the UP Phone is significantly more secure than competing smartphones because it does not rely on third party Domain Name System (DNS) requests.

As reported by exabytes.co.id, DNS is a system used by devices to translate domain names into computer readable IP addresses, enabling connections to target servers on the internet.

Third party DNS requests mean that each time a phone attempts to access the internet, there is a request to a DNS server not owned by the user or primary service provider. The more third party DNS requests, the higher the chance that user data or browsing history could be tracked by external parties.

By eliminating third party DNS requests, this smartphone can maintain user security and privacy by not sending data to external DNS servers.

World Class Specifications

UP Phone is powered by a mid to high range MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset, allowing for gaming, multitasking, and 5G connectivity.

It features a 6.67 inch AMOLED display, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage expandable up to 1TB.

The photography sector is also a focus. Its main camera has a 108MP lens, accompanied by a 5MP macro camera and an 8MP wide angle lens. For selfies and video calls, it relies on a 32MP front camera.

UP Phone is equipped with a 4,300 mAh battery supporting 33W wired and 15W wireless charging. Other features include IP53 certification, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, eSIM and Nano SIM support, 5G network, USB Type-C 2.0 slot, and dual speakers.

Operated by a Cyprus Based Startup

Although manufactured in Indonesia, UP Phone is under the Unplugged brand, a startup based in Limassol, Cyprus.

Information about UP Phone being produced in Indonesia was reported by Reuters in August 2025, based on statements from Unplugged CEO Joe Well.

According to Reuters, Unplugged plans to produce UP Phone in Nevada, United States, after previously relying on manufacturing in Indonesia.

Conclusion

Although produced in Indonesia, UP Phone is under the Unplugged brand, a startup based in Limassol, Cyprus. This demonstrates that Indonesia is capable of delivering technological innovation that can compete internationally, from design and features to competitive pricing. The next step is for the government and local businesses to optimize the available opportunities.
