Jakarta, INTI – The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia has once again come under the spotlight as technology industry leaders discussed the urgency of digital adaptation during a forum held in Jakarta on Tuesday. The national AI adoption rate, which has reached 47% over the past year, reflects significant acceleration, yet it also highlights challenges such as low public literacy. This situation places both society and industry players in a position where adaptation is no longer a choice but a necessity. During the event, collaborative solutions involving the government, telecommunications operators, and the business sector became the main focus to ensure that AI implementation is intelligent, inclusive, and yields real benefits.
Behavioral Shifts and the Importance of AI Adaptation
President Director of PT Lintas Teknologi Indonesia, Muhamad Paisol, stated that the rise of digital culture has brought major changes to human behavior. He noted that most global companies have now adopted AI in their operations, while Indonesia recorded a 47% surge in AI adoption within the past year though only a small portion has reached an advanced utilization stage.
According to Paisol, more than 70% of Indonesians have already interacted with AI without realizing it, whether through mobile applications, digital services, or smart devices. Therefore, public literacy must be improved so society can better understand the technologies they use.
“The question is no longer whether we should adapt, but how fast and how intelligently we can leverage AI to deliver the greatest benefit for society and industry,” he said.
Social and Cultural Impacts in the Human–Machine Synergy Era
Paisol emphasized that digital transformation is not merely about adopting new technologies, but also about changing mindsets and cultural patterns. AI is reshaping how humans work, think, and interact, making adaptability the key foundation in this new era.
“We are entering a time when synergy between humans and machines becomes the standard,” he added.
AI Implementation in the Telecommunications Industry
President Director of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Dian Siswarini, explained that Telkom Group has implemented various AI-driven solutions to enhance network efficiency. From automating network operations to optimizing capacity planning and improving routing efficiency, AI is being utilized to ensure networks remain reliable and cost-efficient.
In addition, Telkom applies AI in commercial sectors through precision marketing to support advertising strategies and improve customer experience.
To accelerate nationwide AI adoption, Telkom is also building a strong digital infrastructure as a “Network for AI,” ensuring a solid internet foundation for all users.
National Collaboration Toward a Strong AI Ecosystem
Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Ismail, stated that accelerating AI transformation requires joint efforts across sectors. The government and the telecommunications industry, he said, need to open discussions regarding networks, data sources, and frequency spectrum to create a collaborative yet healthy competitive environment.
The goal is to deliver relevant public services while preparing Indonesia for AI adoption that can address future economic and social challenges.
Conclusion
The 47% growth in AI adoption marks an important momentum for Indonesia to strengthen its digital technology foundation. With shifting public behavior, the need for higher digital literacy, and strategic implementation across industries, Indonesia is on track toward a more mature AI transformation. Cross-sector collaboration is essential to ensure that AI not only advances technically, but also provides broad benefits for society and enhances national competitiveness.
