7 hours ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - The University of Indonesia (UI) and Kyungpook National University (KNU) have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and multidisciplinary research collaboration through a range of academic and innovation-focused initiatives.

“We are open to cooperation in many forms. We hope this partnership will lead to concrete and impactful outcomes,” said UI Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Mahmud Sudibandriyo in a statement released on Friday.

During a recent meeting, representatives from both institutions explored opportunities for joint lectures, collaborative research projects, faculty exchanges, student mobility programs, and the development of an “AI + X” framework that integrates AI with disciplines such as engineering, healthcare, industry, agriculture, and the humanities.

The partnership is also expected to leverage KNU’s AI Transformative Initiative (AIX), a strategy designed to integrate AI across education, research, and industry while fostering globally competitive talent in areas including AI robotics, future mobility, AI safety, and semiconductor technologies.

KNU Vice President for Research, Dr. Jung Soon Ki, emphasized the importance of translating institutional agreements into tangible academic and research outcomes.

“Now is the right time to move beyond administrative cooperation toward meaningful academic collaboration and joint research initiatives. We hope this partnership will provide valuable global experiences for students and faculty members from both universities,” Jung said.

Dual-Degree Programs and Global Talent Development

The two universities also discussed the possibility of launching dual-degree programs that would allow Indonesian students to earn two master’s degrees within two years and continue their doctoral studies at KNU through fully funded scholarship opportunities.

As an initial step, both institutions agreed to focus their collaboration on artificial intelligence and computer science before expanding cooperation into other academic and research fields.

The partnership with Kyungpook National University reflects UI’s broader commitment to strengthening its international academic network and expanding global research opportunities.

Founded in 1946 and headquartered in Daegu, South Korea, KNU is recognized as a leading research institution with a strong commitment to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovation, education, and scientific advancement.

Conclusion

The partnership between the University of Indonesia and Kyungpook National University marks a significant step toward strengthening international collaboration in artificial intelligence and advanced research. By combining academic expertise, talent development initiatives, and joint research programs, the two institutions aim to accelerate innovation while preparing future generations of AI professionals and researchers. The collaboration also highlights the growing importance of global academic partnerships in advancing technological progress and addressing emerging challenges across multiple industries.
