20 hours ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia and Switzerland are deepening their cooperation in the digital economy by exploring investment opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI), fintech, blockchain, and digital infrastructure. The partnership aims to accelerate digital economic growth while enhancing the global competitiveness of both countries.

The commitment was highlighted during the Indonesia–Swiss Business Forum Series 2026 on Digital Economy: Enhancing Collaboration in the Fastest Emerging Market, hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Bern in Zug, Switzerland, on June 25, 2026.

The forum brought together dozens of chief executives, technology professionals, academics, and policymakers from both countries, providing a platform to strengthen business ties and explore new investment and partnership opportunities in the digital sector.

Expanding AI and Digital Investment Opportunities

Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Ngurah Swajaya, said the two countries possess complementary strengths. Indonesia offers one of the region’s fastest-growing digital markets, while Switzerland is recognized for its technological innovation and advanced digital ecosystem.

According to the ambassador, combining Indonesia’s expanding digital economy with Switzerland’s expertise in technology could unlock significant opportunities in digital infrastructure, AI, and digital finance.

Held in Zug, widely known as Europe’s leading hub for cryptocurrency and blockchain innovation, the forum was expected to expand business engagement between Indonesian and Swiss companies and foster stronger collaboration in emerging technologies.

Building Digital Talent and Strengthening Innovation Ecosystems

The event also formed part of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Switzerland. One of the key initiatives discussed was digital talent development through Nongsa Digital Park in Batam.

Marco Bardelli, Chief Business Officer of Nongsa Digital Park, explained that equipping Indonesian professionals with Swiss-standard digital skills would make it easier for Swiss companies to expand their operations in Indonesia, particularly in advanced manufacturing and fintech-related industries.

In addition to discussions on digital infrastructure and data centers, the forum featured dedicated sessions on "Fintech, Blockchain, and the Future of Finance" and "AI and Digital Innovation," reflecting both countries' shared interest in accelerating digital transformation.

Silvia Thalmann-Gut, Director of Economic Affairs for the Canton of Zug, emphasized that close collaboration among governments, businesses, and research institutions is essential for creating an investment-friendly environment. She noted that this approach has helped establish Zug as Crypto Valley, home to thousands of blockchain startups and global technology companies.

Meanwhile, IGP Wira Kusuma, Head of Bank Indonesia's Representative Office in London, highlighted Indonesia's resilient economic fundamentals and the continued expansion of its digital payment ecosystem, including the growing international adoption of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) across Asia.

The annual business forum forms part of the Indonesian Embassy's broader efforts to promote Indonesia's economic potential while strengthening trade, investment, and business cooperation with Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

Conclusion

The Indonesia–Switzerland partnership highlights a shared commitment to accelerating digital transformation through investment, innovation, and talent development. By combining Indonesia’s expanding digital market with Switzerland’s technological expertise, both countries aim to create new opportunities in AI, fintech, blockchain, and digital infrastructure while fostering long-term economic growth.
