Jakarta, INTI - The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) is exploring a potential collaboration with Russia-based cybersecurity company Positive Technologies in data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity.
The initiative is being facilitated by Sakuranesia Society, which serves as a bridge connecting Indonesian education, research, diplomacy, and cultural exchange initiatives with international partners.
Alhadi Bustamam, Head of the Data Science Center at FMIPA UI, said AI and cybersecurity are increasingly interconnected, creating opportunities for closer collaboration between academia and industry.
“Cybersecurity and artificial intelligence can no longer be separated. AI models require secure data, while modern security systems increasingly rely on AI to identify threats. The Data Science Center at FMIPA UI aims to contribute at this intersection,” Alhadi said in Jakarta on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Collaboration with international industry partners is expected to provide lecturers and students with greater access to real-world cases and best practices in cybersecurity.
“We hope this initiative will lead to joint research that produces high-quality publications while also delivering solutions to Indonesia’s digital security challenges,” he added.
Collaboration to Strengthen Indonesia’s Digital Talent
Sakuranesia Society Founder Tovic R said the meeting was part of an effort to connect Indonesian universities with international partners to support digital talent development.
“International collaboration must address Indonesia’s real needs. One of our greatest needs today is reliable digital talent with expertise in cybersecurity and AI,” he said.
Tovic emphasized that universities play an important role in preparing human resources capable of keeping pace with technological developments while understanding the challenges involved in their implementation.
“We are committed to following up on this meeting so that the plans discussed today can be translated into concrete programs for students and lecturers,” he said.
Sakuranesia also hopes the initiative will expand Indonesia’s international collaboration network with partners in Japan, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan, while further strengthening education and research ties with Russia.
Positive Technologies Ready to Share Cybersecurity Expertise
Alexander Udalov, Director of International Channels and Educational Programs at Positive Technologies, said the company is ready to share its practical experience and expertise in cybersecurity.
“The demand for cybersecurity professionals is growing faster than the available talent, including in Indonesia. We want to share practical expertise so that students can understand how cyberattacks work and, more importantly, how to defend against them,” he said.
The Data Science Center is one of the centers under the Applied Sciences Institute of FMIPA UI, focusing on data science, AI, and bioinformatics.
The Applied Sciences Institute of FMIPA UI serves as a platform for applying scientific knowledge and research to real-world needs, including through partnerships with government institutions and industry.
Conclusion
The potential collaboration between UI and Positive Technologies highlights the growing convergence of AI, data science, and cybersecurity. By connecting academic research with industry expertise, the partnership could strengthen Indonesia’s cybersecurity capabilities, advance applied research, and develop digital talent equipped to address emerging digital security challenges.
