Half of Emissions Cut Down Thanks to Comprehensive Waste Management

2 weeks ago | Green Industrial

Jakarta, INTI - The total emissions of Langkah Membumi Ecoground 2025 decreased by 57% compared to the previous year, demonstrating that large-scale public events can still be managed responsibly with a measured and consistent sustainability approach.

According to the Langkah Membumi Ecoground 2025 Impact Report released by Blibli Ticket Action, the event’s total emissions were recorded at 94.1 kg CO₂e, a significant drop from 218.6 kg CO₂e in 2024. This reduction was achieved through the use of existing infrastructure, energy efficiency measures, and material repurposing practices applied from planning to execution.

The sustainability impact assessment was conducted in collaboration with Life Cycle Indonesia, using a life cycle assessment (LCA) approach based on ISO 14040/44 for environmental aspects and ISO 14075 for social aspects. This methodology ensures data transparency and provides a foundation for continuous improvement in the organization of public events in the future

In terms of waste management, all trash generated over the two day event was thoroughly sorted and processed. A total of 187 kg of waste was prevented from ending up as unmanaged refuse. This effort was further supported by 12 water refill stations that distributed 741 liters of drinking water, helping to avoid the use of 1,235 single-use plastic bottles.

Beyond reducing operational emissions, Langkah Membumi Ecoground 2025 also contributed to coastal ecosystem restoration. Through multi stakeholder collaboration, the event facilitated donations for 110,500 mangrove trees, which are projected to absorb up to 3,635.5 tons of CO₂ over an eight-year period.

The mangroves were sourced from various participatory initiatives, including ticket purchase conversions by attendees, community runs and cycling activities, as well as collaboration with sports communities and sustainability partners. This scheme highlights a collaborative approach as an integral part of the event’s design.

Public Spaces as a Catalyst for Action

Under the theme “CollaborAction for the Earth,” Langkah Membumi Ecoground was designed as a public gathering space that integrates lifestyle, sports, and sustainability education. The event featured four main zones: Eco Motion, Eco Market, Eco Labs, and Eco Stage, encouraging visitors to actively engage in everyday sustainable practices.

COO & Co-Founder of Blibli, Lisa Widodo, emphasized that sustainability principles are integrated into operational decisions, rather than being treated as mere add-ons in event management.

“When public spaces are designed responsibly, they can help cultivate new habits. Change starts with simple choices in everyday life,” she stated in a written release on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

From a social impact perspective, internal surveys revealed that most visitors of Langkah Membumi Ecoground were young people, with over half of the respondents expressing an intention to adopt more sustainable behaviors after attending the events. These findings underscore the role of hands-on experiences in public spaces as a bridge from awareness to concrete action.

Deputy Minister of Environment, Diaz Hendropriyono, praised Langkah Membumi Ecoground as an educational platform that not only raises environmental awareness but also demonstrates responsible event practices, particularly in waste management and engaging the younger generation.

“Through cross-sector collaboration like this, environmental protection efforts can be strengthened and sustained over the long term,” she said.

In its 2025 Impact Report, Blibli reaffirmed that a collaborative, data-driven approach serves as a key foundation in creating sustainable public spaces. Amid the growing urgency of the climate crisis, Langkah Membumi is positioned as a community-based collective action model that delivers measurable contributions to emissions reduction while also encouraging positive behavioral change in society.

Conclusion

Overall, Langkah Membumi Ecoground 2025 demonstrated that large-scale public events can be organized responsibly through measurable sustainability strategies and cross-sector collaboration. By combining data-driven impact assessment, it reduces emissions but also fosters lasting behavioral change toward a more sustainable future.
