Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has deployed 722 internet service points through BAKTI across South Kalimantan to expand digital connectivity, particularly in blankspot areas.
The program is distributed across 13 regencies, with the majority of locations relying on satellite technology to reach regions not yet covered by terrestrial networks.
Acting Director of Telecommunication and Information Services, Tri Haryanto, stated that out of the total service points, one location uses fiber optic infrastructure while the remaining 721 are supported by the SATRIA satellite system.
He explained, “The service deployment is supported through a combination of state-owned assets and leased service schemes to reach areas beyond terrestrial network coverage, allowing internet access expansion to continue more evenly.”
Distribution and Service Utilization
Hulu Sungai Utara Regency recorded the highest number of service points with 179 locations, reflecting the government’s focus on areas with significant connectivity needs.
A total of 635 service points are dedicated to the education sector, particularly schools, serving as a key foundation for digital transformation in regional learning activities.
Beyond education, internet services have also been extended to healthcare facilities, government offices, community centers, as well as supporting defense, security, and local economic activities.
Infrastructure Evaluation and Strengthening
Based on monitoring through the Network Management System, several service points have shown high utilization levels in supporting community digital activities.
However, around 77 points recorded low utilization, mostly within the education and government sectors, becoming part of the government’s ongoing evaluation process.
The government is considering the relocation of certain service points to ensure more effective and targeted utilization according to on-site needs.
The service infrastructure is supported by a ground station in Banjarmasin through a Network Operation Center facility, selected due to the availability of fiber optic connectivity to maintain service stability.
Conclusion
The deployment of 722 internet access points in South Kalimantan reflects the government’s commitment to expanding digital inclusion, bridging connectivity gaps, and accelerating regional digital transformation through satellite-based infrastructure.
