Google Makes Vids Free, an AI-Powered Video Editing App for All Users

7 months ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI – August 29, 2025  Google has officially opened free access to Google Vids, a video editing and creation app powered by artificial intelligence (AI). Previously, this service was only available to paid Google Workspace subscribers.

With this new policy, anyone with a Google account can now experience the convenience of editing videos more simply, quickly, and seamlessly integrated with the Google ecosystem.

A Practical Alternative for Video Editing

Until now, creating or editing videos has often been associated with professional software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, and After Effects, which generally require devices with high specifications.

Google Vids introduces a lighter, more accessible concept. Users can create videos based on templates, similar to Canva for graphic design. Content can be uploaded directly from a computer or Google Drive, then enhanced with text, stickers, background music, and transition effects without the need for advanced editing skills.

Comprehensive Free Features

Although it is offered for free, Google Vids still provides a wide range of basic editing tools. Users can:

  • Upload or record video and audio directly from their device.
  • Add voice-over or narration.
  • Record their screen for presentations or tutorials.
  • Access built-in stock images, videos, and sound effects.

All elements can be arranged with transitions and duration adjustments, making videos look more polished. To support new users, Google has also launched a tutorial series called “Vids on Vids.”

Premium Features with Advanced AI Technology

For Google Workspace subscribers or Gemini Pro/Ultra users, Google offers more advanced AI features, including:

  • Automatic video creation from a text description.
  • Converting photos into short video clips (image-to-video).
  • An AI avatar presenter that delivers scripts like a real speaker.
  • Automatic image editing with simple text commands.
Transcript trimming to remove pauses, filler words, and hesitations automatically.

In addition, Google plans to introduce new features such as noise cancellation, display filters, virtual backgrounds, and support for portrait and square video formats widely used on social media.

Conclusion

The availability of Google Vids for free opens broader opportunities for both beginner and professional creators to edit videos more easily and in a fully integrated way. With additional premium AI-powered features, Google further strengthens its position as a digital solutions provider that empowers user creativity.
