Drone Event in Surabaya Opens Opportunities for Hundreds of Young Digital Talents

7 months ago | Drone Industry

Jakarta, INTI – 120 children in Surabaya had the opportunity to experience flying a drone for the first time at Drone Kids Day. This event was held to foster interest and skills in technology from an early age and to prepare the younger generation to compete at a global level.

The activity was a free drone technology introduction held at the Atrium Surabaya Town Square on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

Learning Drone Technology from an Early Age

Drone Kids Day featured interactive drone introduction sessions. Children not only learned the theory but also practiced controlling drones in an open field.

According to republika.co.id, Danang Firmansyah, Director of Drone Kids Academy, stated that participants were introduced to the entire drone technology ecosystem from components, assembly, programming (coding), to operation through hands-on practice. The activity was designed so that participants could understand the basic principles of flight, navigation, and safety in drone usage.

Danang explained that drone technology is based on STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and it is important for children to be familiar with it early on, as the use of this technology is expanding. In developed countries such as Europe and the United States, such education is already highly advanced.

“Here, children learn to assemble, program, and control drones in a safe, interactive, and fun approach,” said Danang.

This activity represents the first step for many children to get to know drone technology, as most participants did not own drones at home. As shared by Raisa from Wonosari Kidul and Cahaya Ramadani from Wonokromo, both were interested in joining after learning about it at school. They found participating in the event very enjoyable.

Encouraging Competitiveness of Digital Talent Generation

Drone Kids Day opens opportunities for children to explore their interests in technology and aeromodelling. Danang added that this effort is not only through product demonstrations but also via competitions such as the Micro Drone Fun Race Drone Challenge. In addition, there was a DIY Drone Education contest with attractive prizes.

“This includes competitions like Micro Drone Fun Race, Drone Challenge, and games. Through these competitions, children can test their skills, concentration, and strategy,” he said.

According to Danang, these competitions aim to foster children’s interest and competitiveness so they can participate in international drone competitions for kids, including categories such as drone coding challenge, micro drone racing, and drone swarm shows (aerial formations dancing in the air).

Cross-Sector Synergy to Develop Digital Talent

This activity is part of government and tech community efforts to develop digital talent in Indonesia. With training from an early age, the younger generation is expected not only to master drone technology but also to be ready for challenges in the rapidly growing drone industry, both in commercial and research sectors.

Instructors from local drone communities and startups guided participants in a fun way. They also emphasized the importance of creativity and technological understanding, enabling children to develop skills relevant for the digital era.

Conclusion

Drone Kids Day in Surabaya demonstrates that technology education can begin at an early age. Through drone introduction, children gain enjoyable learning experiences while preparing themselves for the digital era. This initiative is a strategic step in building superior digital talent capable of competing globally.
