Jakarta, INTI - Danone Indonesia has operated solar power plants at 11 of its production facilities across Indonesia, with a total installed capacity of over 10.4 MWp. These installations are located in Klaten, Ciherang, Banyuwangi, Mekarsari, Mambal, Cianjur, Langkat, Prambanan, Yogyakarta, Sentul, and Ciracas.
The use of solar energy aligns with Danone's global commitment as a member of RE100, which targets the use of 100% renewable energy sources for electricity across all global operations by 2030 as part of an effort to accelerate the transition to low-carbon operations.
Karyanto Wibowo, Director of Public Affairs & Sustainability at Danone Indonesia, stated that sustainability is part of the company's business strategy.
"Utilizing solar energy in various production facilities is one of our concrete steps to reduce our operational carbon footprint while increasing energy efficiency," he said in an official statement on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Danone Indonesia also implements other decarbonization programs, such as environmental rehabilitation and conservation, biodiversity protection, transportation optimization and operational efficiency, and the use of biomass as an alternative energy source.
"All of these efforts are part of Danone Indonesia's long-term commitment to supporting Indonesia's Net Zero Emissions target," said Karyanto.
Appreciation for Its Decarbonization Efforts
This commitment led Danone Indonesia to win the Solar Awards 2026 in the industry category at the Indonesia Solar Summit (ISS) 2026, held from July 14–16 in Bali. The award recognized the company's consistency in integrating solar energy into its business operations as part of its sustainability and decarbonization strategy.
The ISS 2026, themed "From Ambition to Action – Strengthening the Solar PV Ecosystem to Support Energy Sovereignty," was organized by the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) and stakeholders as a collaborative forum to accelerate the development of the solar energy ecosystem in Indonesia.
CEO of IESR, Fabby Tumiwa, stated that the Solar Awards are a form of appreciation for institutions that have demonstrated concrete implementation in utilizing solar energy.
"Through this award, we hope to encourage more good practices that can encourage the development of the solar energy ecosystem while strengthening the transition to a low-carbon economy in Indonesia," he said.
