China Releases Top 100 Supercomputers 2024: Steady Technological Progress

3 months ago | Data Center and Cloud Computing

Jakarta, INTI – China has released its 2024 list of the Top 100 most powerful supercomputers. Notably, the list does not mention any ExaFLOPS systems, and most of the listed machines are continuations from previous years with improved performance. This reflects China’s ongoing strategy for high-performance computing development.

Top Supercomputers in China

The top three supercomputers in China remain unchanged from last year, with the most powerful system installed in 2023. This machine features 15,974,400 CPU cores and a peak Linpack performance of 487.94 PFLOPS, surpassing Japan’s Fugaku at 442 PFLOPS. However, compared to the latest systems from other countries, such as El Capitan (1.742 ExaFLOPS), Frontier (1.353 ExaFLOPS), and Aurora (1.012 ExaFLOPS), China continues to expand its capabilities gradually.

The second-ranked supercomputer, launched in 2022, features 460,000 CPU cores and a maximum performance of 208.26 PFLOPS. Meanwhile, the third-ranked system has 285,000 CPU cores and delivers 125.04 PFLOPS.

Advancements in Supercomputing Technology

Experts in the supercomputing industry highlight China’s commitment to advancing high-performance computing through continuous innovation. Several systems in the Top 10 have begun incorporating domestically developed processors and accelerators, signifying progress in self-sufficient supercomputing technology.

The Future of Supercomputing in China

With increasing performance and efficiency across the Top 100 list, China continues to demonstrate its dedication to high-performance computing. Although no ExaFLOPS system has been officially announced, many believe that innovation and development in this field will persist in the coming years.

Conclusion

China’s 2024 Top 100 supercomputers list underscores the country’s ongoing focus on high-performance computing, even in the absence of an officially announced ExaFLOPS system. With continuous innovation and gradual performance improvements, China is well-positioned to become a global leader in the supercomputing industry. The future of supercomputing in the country remains promising, with potential breakthroughs on the horizon.
