BRIN Partners with Chinese Tech Company to Develop Digital-Based Smart Livestock Systems

1 month ago | Digital Technology

Jakarta, INTI - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is collaborating with Changzhou Wuitu Smart Technology Co., Ltd. to develop a smart livestock system based on digital technology. The Chinese company is a technology company experienced in developing digital solutions for the industrial sector. The main focus of this collaboration is to build a smart livestock model capable of integrating real-time operational monitoring with a data-driven decision-making system.

The Head of the BRIN Center for Industrial Systems and Sustainable Manufacturing Research, Nugroho Adi Sasongko, described this collaboration as part of a major effort to transform the face of national livestock farming from conventional systems to more precise, measurable, and sustainable systems.

"In the future, livestock farming will no longer rely solely on experience, but will also be supported by accurate data and integrated systems," said Nugroho on Friday, April 10, 2026.

Technology Support and Ecosystem Balance

Through this research, the research team strives to create a livestock ecosystem that is more adaptive to environmental changes while also efficient in resource management. Technologies such as digital sensors, monitoring systems, and digital intelligence-based analysis will form the backbone of the developed model.

Aside from its technological aspect, it also addresses the sustainability dimension. The Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance - Life Cycle Analysis (LEAP-LCA) approach will be used to comprehensively measure the environmental impact of livestock activities. This ensures that each resulting innovation not only increases productivity but also maintains ecosystem balance.

This project is planned for a three-year duration and will be tested in various strategic regions, such as Sumbawa and East Kalimantan, through the SISKA program. These locations were chosen because of their high potential for integrated and technology-based livestock development.

BRIN Aims for National Implementation

This collaboration also includes knowledge transfer and human resource capacity building, equipment installation, operational training, and international scientific publications, all of which are part of efforts to broaden the impact of the resulting innovations.

Nugroho emphasized that this step is part of BRIN's long-term vision to encourage the adoption of digital technology in the agriculture and livestock sectors. He hopes that the results of this research will not only remain in the laboratory but will be implemented in the field and benefit the community.

"What we want to achieve is not just innovation, but real solutions for national food security," said Nugroho.

Conclusion

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is collaborating with Changzhou Wuitu Smart Technology Co., Ltd. to develop a digital-based smart livestock system that integrates real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making. The project utilizes sensors, monitoring systems, and AI, with trial plans in Sumbawa and East Kalimantan. In addition to focusing on technological innovation, the collaboration also includes knowledge transfer and human resource training to transform livestock farming into a more efficient and sustainable system to support national food security.
