Jakarta, INTI - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is opening up opportunities for research collaboration and development of solar panel technology with the Chinese company, SEG Solar Inc.
On Thursday, February 26, 2026, BRIN’s Electronics and Informatics Research Organization (OREI) received a visit from the company's representatives on Thursday (February 26th) to explore collaboration in solar photovoltaic (PV) research and manufacturing in Indonesia.
The Head of OREI, Budi Prawara, welcomed the visit. He discussed the research development of solar photovoltaics in Indonesia and expressed BRIN’s hope in collaborating with SEG Solar in the future.
"This meeting is expected to open up research collaborations, to implement our research with SEG Solar in the field of solar photovoltaics. This potential collaboration is hoped to produce products that can be offered to the industry," said Budi.
PRE BRIN’ Research on Solar PV Development
Research Professor in BRIN’s Solar Cell Technology division, Natalita Maulani Nursam, spoke about Electronic Research Center (PRE) BRIN's research, which focused on solar PV development and future functional electronics.
"Our research focuses on three integrated key pillars, such as Energy Harvesting, encompassing electrochemical and photovoltaic cells; Functional & Flexible Devices, encompassing photodetectors and organic electronics; and Integrated Systems, encompassing PV-PEC tandem systems and battery-PV integration," said Natalita.
SEG Solar's Senior PV Expert, Shehroz Razzaq, spoke about the research developments at SEG from 2021 to 2025. He also highlighted the company's achievements since 2021, such as ribbon cutting for a house plant in 2024 and initial shell shipment in 2025.
Expected Results from BRIN and SEG Solar’s Future Collaboration
During the visit, SEG Solar offered a collaboration model in Indonesia. "We want to establish a structured collaboration between the SEG Global PV Research Institute and our Indonesian partners. One way is to establish a Joint Research Steering Committee between SEG Solar and BRIN," explained Razzaq.
Additionally, SEG Solar encouraged BRIN to develop a fundamental understanding of solar PV technology and mechanisms and to develop the ability to translate laboratory research results into scalable industrial concepts.
"This collaboration is expected to produce joint outputs in the form of joint publications in reputable journals, relevant joint patent applications, and research results that are not only scientifically novel but also have industrial applications," said Razzaq.
Conclusion
BRIN and SEG Solar Inc. are exploring a research collaboration to advance solar photovoltaic technology in Indonesia. Through joint research and potential industrial-scale applications, the collaboration aims to develop innovation, produce impactful scientific outputs, and support solar PV manufacturing in the country.
