BRIN and UMPSA Explore Joint Research Opportunities in Polymer Technology and Nanotechnology

Jakarta, INTI - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) explored the opportunities for research collaboration in nanotechnology, advanced materials, and polymer technology at an academic meeting held at the BJ Habibie Science and Technology Park in Serpong on July 29, 2026.

The Head of BRIN's Research Center for Polymer Technology, Joddy Arya Laksmono, explained that the research center has several research groups focused on polymer synthesis and modification, the development of functional polymers for health applications such as hydrogels, and the development of sustainable natural-based green polymers.

"All of these research activities are supported by comprehensive laboratory facilities to support basic research and technology development for industrial scale," said Joddy.

From UMPSA, Associate Professor Muhamad Zahim bin Sujod explained the university's various Centers of Excellence, including the Center for Intelligent Advanced Materials (CAIM), which focuses on the development of advanced materials for the automotive, energy, and manufacturing industries.

UMPSA also offers collaboration opportunities in battery materials research, signal analysis, machine intelligence, and organizing international conferences involving BRIN researchers.

Potential Joint R&D Sectors

During the discussion, BRIN and UMPSA identified several areas with potential for joint development, including polymer technology, advanced materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), bioaromatic-based materials, sustainable nanotechnology, and materials for energy applications.

This collaboration is expected to produce innovations that will not only improve the quality of scientific publications but also contribute to industrial development and address various global challenges.

Through this meeting, BRIN and UMPSA reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening international research collaboration through the use of joint research facilities, researcher and student exchanges, human resource capacity development, and collaborative research that produces globally competitive innovations.

The synergy between the two institutions is expected to strengthen the research and innovation ecosystem while supporting sustainable development in the Southeast Asia region.
