Jakarta, INTI - Apple is expanding its manufacturing program in the United States by partnering with four new partners to produce components for the iPhone and other devices. This move is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen its supply chain amid geopolitical pressures and global tariffs.
The four companies joining the Apple Manufacturing Program (AMP) are Bosch, Cirrus Logic, TDK, and Qnity Electronics. Apple has allocated USD 400 million, or around Rp6.3 trillion, through 2030 for the collaboration.
Each partner will handle specific components. For the first time, TDK will produce sensors in the US, including components for the iPhone's camera stabilization. Bosch is collaborating with TSMC to produce chips for features like Crash Detection and activity tracking on the Apple Watch. Meanwhile, Cirrus Logic is partnering with GlobalFoundries to develop chips for the Face ID system, and Qnity Electronics will supply semiconductor materials that also support AI computing.
AMP Brings More Sources for The Company
This move complements existing partners like Broadcom, Corning, and Texas Instruments, which have been involved since 2025. Since the program's inception, Apple has sourced more than 20 billion US-made chips from 24 factories in 12 states, including plans to purchase more than 100 million chips from TSMC's Arizona facility this year.
Meanwhile, existing partners have also continued to increase investments, such as Amkor's construction of a chip packaging facility in Arizona and Corning's production of iPhone and Apple Watch cover glass in Kentucky.
However, these investments remain relatively small compared to Apple's total commitment of USD 600 billion for manufacturing in the US. Production of its most advanced chips remains centered in Taiwan, and iPhone assembly is mostly still in China.
Conclusion
Apple is expanding its US manufacturing operations by partnering with Bosch, Cirrus Logic, TDK, and Qnity Electronics to produce components for iPhones and other devices. The move aims to strengthen its supply chain amid global pressure, but advanced chip production remains concentrated in Taiwan and iPhone assembly remains predominantly in China.
