Affordable 100 Mbps Internet at Rp100,000 Becomes a Turning Point for Equal Digital Access Nationwide

4 hours ago | Digital Technology

Jakarta, INTI - Affordable 100 Mbps internet service priced at Rp100,000 per month could become a major turning point in achieving equal digital access across Indonesia while also addressing the issue of internet affordability for the public.

Nezar Patria stated that Indonesia still faces significant challenges in improving the quality of national internet services, despite telecommunications networks already covering most populated areas.

“Our telecommunications network now covers 97 percent of inhabited areas across the archipelago. In terms of coverage, the landscape is already quite good, but the quality of our internet still needs improvement,” Nezar said during the Grand Launching Ceremony of Internet Rakyat in West Jakarta on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Internet Affordability Becomes Key to Digital Equality

According to Nezar, the main challenge today is no longer limited to expanding network coverage, but also ensuring high-quality and affordable internet access for the public.

The government believes the demand for fast and stable internet access is becoming increasingly urgent as digital transformation accelerates across multiple sectors, including education, public services, healthcare, and the digital economy.

Nezar emphasized that the availability of high-speed internet at affordable prices could become a key solution for expanding public access to productive digital spaces.

He described initiatives such as Internet Rakyat as an important step toward bridging the digital divide that still exists in many regions.

“If we can provide 100 Mbps internet for Rp100,000, this will be a game changer. This is not only about internet connectivity, but also about ensuring people gain more equal digital access,” he stressed.

According to Nezar, Indonesia’s digital transformation requires inclusive infrastructure support so the benefits of the digital economy can be distributed more evenly.

The government wants to ensure that people are not only technology users, but are also able to utilize digital platforms to improve productivity and welfare.

“We want digital access to become more inclusive. No one should be left behind simply because they cannot afford quality internet access,” he said.

Collaboration and Infrastructure Strengthen National Connectivity

Nezar also highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government, industry players, telecommunications service providers, and other stakeholders to accelerate equal connectivity nationwide.

He noted that Indonesia’s geographical challenges require innovative approaches to ensure internet services can reach communities more efficiently and extensively.

In addition to expanding access, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs continues to encourage improvements in national network quality to support future technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud services, the Internet of Things, and the development of Indonesia’s digital economy.

“Bandwidth demand will continue to grow in the future. That is why internet quality and affordability must go hand in hand,” Nezar stated.

Through collaboration between the government and industry, Nezar hopes affordable high-speed internet services will open new opportunities for people to access digital education, expand business opportunities, and strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.

Conclusion

The Indonesian government views affordable high-speed internet as a crucial foundation for accelerating national digital transformation and reducing the digital divide. Through stronger infrastructure, cross-sector collaboration, and inclusive internet access, Indonesia aims to ensure that more people can benefit from education, economic opportunities, and future digital technologies.
