18 hours ago | Network Infrastructure

Jakarta, INTI - XLSMART is continuing to expand and strengthen its network infrastructure across Kalimantan as part of its strategy to become Indonesia's leading provider of nationwide 5G connectivity and digital services.

The investment is aimed at delivering faster, more stable, and more reliable data services while supporting the acceleration of digital transformation for communities, businesses, and public institutions throughout the region.

Kalimantan has become one of XLSMART's strategic priorities as demand for digital connectivity continues to grow across residential, commercial, and government sectors. The island's importance has increased further following its designation as the site of Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara (IKN), where world-class digital infrastructure is essential to supporting the development of a smart city ecosystem.

Today, XLSMART's network in Kalimantan is supported by more than 27,000 base transceiver stations (BTS), providing services across 55 cities and regencies. The company has also deployed more than 300 5G BTS in Balikpapan and Banjarmasin.

"Our ambition is to become the most customer-loved telecommunications company by continuously strengthening both the quality and reach of our network across Kalimantan, making the region one of the key priorities in XLSMART's network expansion strategy," said Sarroso Dwi Panggah, Regional Group Head for Kalimantan at XLSMART.

"Our ongoing infrastructure investments are designed not only to expand network coverage but also to deliver a superior digital experience through faster, more stable, and more reliable connectivity. With more than 27,000 BTS and over 300 5G BTS in operation, we are confident in our ability to support customer needs while contributing to the growth of Kalimantan's digital economy," he added.

Expanding 5G Connectivity Across Kalimantan

Following the integration of its network infrastructure, XLSMART has significantly expanded its coverage throughout Kalimantan, enabling customers in 55 cities and regencies to benefit from broader network availability and improved service quality.

The company is also accelerating the rollout of its 5G network to meet rising demand for high-speed mobile connectivity.

More than 300 operational 5G BTS in Balikpapan and Banjarmasin now provide faster internet speeds, lower latency, and more reliable connections to support a wide range of digital activities, including communications, entertainment, education, business operations, and remote productivity.

The strengthened network has contributed to increased customer usage, with data traffic across Kalimantan growing by more than 12% between April and May 2026 compared with the previous period.

To complement its expanding 5G network, XLSMART has introduced XL ULTRA 5G+, a new mobile package offering generous data allowances and optimized access to the company's 5G network.

The service enables customers in 5G-covered areas to enjoy faster, smoother, and more reliable internet connectivity for streaming, gaming, work, and other everyday digital activities.

Supporting Indonesia's Digital Future

Looking ahead, XLSMART plans to continue investing in network capacity upgrades, wider service coverage, and broader 5G deployment throughout Kalimantan.

The initiative reflects the company's commitment to delivering inclusive, reliable, and future-ready connectivity that supports Indonesia's growing digital economy.

Nationwide, XLSMART operates more than 253,000 BTS, primarily 4G sites alongside thousands of 5G BTS, supported by an extensive fiber-optic backbone network that serves more than 69 million customers across the Indonesian archipelago.

Conclusion

XLSMART's continued investment in network expansion and 5G deployment across Kalimantan underscores its commitment to strengthening Indonesia's digital infrastructure. By enhancing connectivity for communities, businesses, and the future Nusantara capital, the company aims to support inclusive digital transformation and drive long-term economic growth across the region.
