Jakarta, INTI – The economic challenges faced by underproductive rural communities highlight the need for practical solutions that can directly improve residents’ welfare. This effort was reflected in an empowerment program held in Ngampungan Village, Jombang, on November, 24, 2025, which introduced technology-based and modern approaches to developing village enterprises. In this program, the academic team presented green technology and digitalization as new methods to enhance the capacity of local business groups. The initiative focused not only on training but also on continuous mentoring to help the community achieve economic independence. The program’s presence offers new hope for the development of a more competitive tourism village.
Application of Technology for Village Empowerment
A team of lecturers from Dr. Soetomo University (Unitomo) carried out a Village Assistance and Empowerment Program in Ngampungan Village, Bareng District, Jombang, East Java. The program targets underproductive economic groups to help them develop their businesses through the implementation of green technology and digitalization.
The Team Leader, Sayekti Suindyah D, explained that the program received funding from the 2025 Fiscal Year of DPPM Kemendiktisaintek as part of efforts to improve village tourism business management.
Focus on Product Diversification and Business Digitalization
According to Sayekti, the adoption of green technology, digitalization, and product diversification for Pokdarwis and local MSMEs is essential to enhance competitiveness. She emphasized that the program is designed not to end with training sessions alone, but to truly strengthen the village economy and create new job opportunities.
The mentoring provided ensures that funding is not wasted and that the program delivers tangible results for the community.
Training Based on Sustainability and Village Independence
The program also involves Unitomo students from various study programs as part of their internship and fieldwork course requirements. Activities that have been carried out include training in producing village mineral water, making kembang goyang cakes, digitalizing bookkeeping through the SIKEDAS application, developing digital marketing strategies, creating promotional content, and applying green technologies for local MSME actors.
This mentoring aims to support business sustainability so that the village can build a strong and independent economic foundation.
Appreciation from the Village Government and Community
The Head of Ngampungan Village, Rohan, expressed his appreciation for the contributions of Unitomo and Kemendiktisaintek. Similar support was conveyed by the heads of Pokdarwis, PKK, and several village community leaders.
They believe the program can significantly improve the local economy and open new job opportunities, especially for community members who previously had limited access to business activities.
Conclusion
The synergy between higher education institutions, the government, and the community has become a key strength for Ngampungan Village to grow into an independent and competitive tourism village. By integrating local wisdom with green technology and digitalization, the village has the potential to become a sustainable empowerment model that can be replicated in other regions.
