Trade Ministry Debuts AI Services at TEI 2026, Targeting Global Market Opportunities

2 hours ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade (MoT) is introducing artificial intelligence (AI) services at Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026 for the first time, aiming to create global market opportunities for Indonesian AI talent.

Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, Fajarini Puntodewi, said the initiative is part of efforts to align TEI with the evolving needs of the global market.

“This is the first time we are opening TEI to AI services,” Fajarini said during a press conference for TEI 2026 in Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Wednesday.

The inclusion of AI services will allow international buyers to order AI-based products and services developed by Indonesian talent.

“They can order these AI products from Indonesian talent,” Fajarini explained.

Domestic Market as a Foundation for Industry Development

According to Fajarini, global demand is increasingly shifting toward products with higher added value and advanced technological capabilities.

This trend requires the products and services showcased at TEI to continuously adapt to changing market demands.

Fajarini said Indonesia’s large domestic market could serve as a foundation for developing national industries before their products and services are expanded into international markets.

“The principle is to leverage our large domestic market as the foundation for industry development, and then take the resulting products and services to markets around the world,” she said.

Products showcased at TEI are also being tailored to market demand to provide Indonesian businesses with greater opportunities to expand their reach internationally.

Before introducing AI services at TEI 2026, the Ministry of Trade had promoted Indonesia’s AI capabilities at the China-ASEAN Expo (CAExpo) 2026 in Nanning, China, in September 2026.

On September 22, 2026, the Directorate General of National Export Development said Indonesia received two awards at CAExpo 2026, including the Special Contributor for AI Cooperation award.

Ministry of Trade Pushes AI Industry Toward Global Markets

The expansion of the AI services market comes amid growing adoption of artificial intelligence technology across Indonesia’s economy.

In August 2026, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs reported that revenue from AI-based features in Indonesia grew 127 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2025.

Fajarini expressed hope that the introduction of AI services at TEI would serve as a catalyst for Indonesia’s AI industry to expand into international markets.

“Hopefully, this will also mark a turning point for the revival of our AI industry and its expansion into global markets,” Fajarini said.

Trade Expo Indonesia 2026 marks the 41st edition of the event and is scheduled to take place from October 14–18, 2026.

The exhibition will be held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City in Tangerang Regency, Banten.

Conclusion

The introduction of AI services at TEI 2026 reflects Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen its AI industry and connect local talent with international buyers. By leveraging its large domestic market as a foundation for industrial development, the government aims to help Indonesian AI products and services gain greater exposure and access to global markets.
